Dear Ramky resident,

This is a friendly reminder for you to participate in our waste segregation and recycling initiative. If you are currently

throwing trash out in a single bag, these instructions will show how there is a better way to do it.

The first step is to realise that waste is of different types – each type should be collected and disposed of in different

ways.

- Recyclable Waste

- Wet waste

- Biological waste

- E-Waste

Recyclable waste is what we are tackling at present. You can segregate, and collect for a month, then drop it off at the

monthly camp held inside the Ramky Towers campus.

This document will help you understand waste segregation. Please start immediately, and make a good contribution at

the monthly camp. Find some space and designate three bins or containers to collect three types of recyclable waste

– Paper waste

– Plastic waste

– Glass/Metal waste

Why? Because paper, plastic, glass and metal is purchased by factories as raw material for the final products (i.e., they are

recycled) to help them reduce costs. Segregation into plastic, paper, glass, and metal is important because raddiwalas offer

different rates for these materials.

Rinse and dry packets that will attract insects, before

storing.

A word about the use of the garbage chute: Only articles that cannot be recycled should be thrown into the garbage chute – i.e., wet waste, biological waste, and e-

waste.

You are also encouraged to separate Wet Waste, Biological Waste, and E-Waste. This is because in the near future we will

start up composting areas where the wet waste can be deposited. If wet waste segregation has already entered the culture

by that time, it will become easy to start composting. For your reference,

Wet waste

- vegetable trimmings from the kitchen

- non-vegetarian waste such as bones and skin

- egg shells

- tea-leaves and coffee grounds

- spoilt or leftover food

Biological waste (anything that contains blood or other bodily fluids)

- baby diapers or adult diapers

- sanitary pads or tampons

- bandages

- condoms

- expired medicines

- injection needles

E-Waste

- Laptop batteries

- Torch, remote, watch batteries

Page 9: Trash segregation

- Computer monitor

- CFLs (contain poisonous mercury, do not throw in trash), LEDs

- Anything that has come out of an electronic appliance

Ramky Infrastructure supports e-waste recycling: We will tie up with them for this purpose, and make the details known.

Mission statement:

Enable residents to dispose of only hazardous biological waste in the garbage

chutes. Everything else will be responsibly managed and recycled.

Everyone’s cooperation is sought in making this venture a success.
