The hot water heater in your home plays a very importantrole. This device is responsible for keeping your homeflowing with hot water, and it is very crucial that it not fallinto disrepair. Rust is one of the leading causes of damageto hot water heaters, and preventing rust can go a long way.There are several steps to checking for rust in the hot waterheater in your home.

1. Inside your water heater is a rod-like device called ananode. This exists in the water heater to prevent rust, and isalso the best way to determine rust levels in the heater.

In order to check this piece, you must first make sure thatyou turn off the heater.

2. Remove the anode from your heater and inspect it. Whenthe rod itself looks like it has been damaged, or if it hasbeen worn away by time and use, then it means that rustlevels in your heater are severe. If the anode looks as itshould, then you are in good shape and can wait a fewmonths before checking the rod for deterioration again.

When you find that the rust in your hot water heater is toobad to be functional,
