Karachi•Gill Atkinson started her career in the Ministry of

Defence supporting Royal Air Force flying, before

transferring to policy work, including Defence aspects

of NATO and military operations in the Balkans. Gill

then moved to the UK Delegation to NATO in

Brussels where she was a specialist in Defence

capabilities during the period of NATO Enlargement

through Central and Eastern Europe and then worked

on NATO-Russia relations and political aspects of

Enlargement.

•After transferring to the Foreign and Commonwealth

Office Gill became Head of the East Africa Section in

the FCO in London later focusing solely on Somalia.

Before arriving in Warsaw Gill was Deputy Head of the

Mediterranean Department in London’s Europe

Directorate.
