One of the main things that successful brands do in the West to increase sales is to consistently create high quality content for their prospective customers. Why? Because it puts their company and its products or services in front of the eyes of more people who could be interested in becoming customers. More of your content in more places online will equal more chances to be seen and known about. As long as the content is of a high quality and helps potential customers in some way, then there is nothing to lose from creating and sharing content! Consider this, would you rather buy something from a brand which always gives you great free advice, offers, and interesting information? Or would you prefer to purchase from one that you never hear anything from? If you answered yes to the first helpful brand, then you, like many Western people, will prefer brands who know how to create great content and see the value of it. By high quality though, this means content which: Helps answer their questions Solves a problem Builds understanding of how you or your products can help them Demonstrates and shares your deep understanding of your industry 2. Offers them something great, such as a special offer These types of content could be in many different forms. You could write blogs, record podcasts, film videos, design infographics, and many more! As long as they follow these basic rules above they will help your company become a brand. The good thing about manufacturers is that in general you are producing products that people use for a certain purpose, and so the question of how to create great content shouldn't really occur. This is because it's always going to be possible for you to show potential customers how your products can benefit them. So if we know that creating great content can help draw new customers towards you, then the next step is to start writing, filming, or recording, right? STOP. If you simply create great content, will it be found by the right people who could become your customers? Unfortunately not! It's not that easy, as you need to pay attention to SEO. SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the practice of using strategically placed keywords and techniques to ensure that your content is found online, especially in search engine results. Earlier I mentioned that if your content appears in more places online, such as search engines, then it will be seen by more people who need the help or information that it offers, and this will result in more sales than before. SEO is, essentially, the art of making sure that your content appears often online in the right places, therefore maximising the chance of possible customers seeing it. > (Tweet this) < Don't worry if this is new to you though, in this blog Oxygen 2.0 will talk you through 10 SEO tips that will help you to create great content that is found by potential foreign customers online! 10 SEO Tips You Need To Be Following 3. Follow these SEO tips and you will stand a better chance of your lovingly crafted content being found by potential foreign customers. It doesn't even need to be so hard as long as you have some practice! 1. Understand The Role Of Keywords In SEO To be found online you need to understand that your potential foreign customers are out there searching for advice, products, or companies that help them in certain ways. To find information they are putting words into a search engine, and we call these 'keywords.' The typical customer might search in a search engine for something like: "Stainless steel kitchenware" If you're a manufacturer of stainless steel kitchenware, then you should consider producing content which is based around this keyword, or very similar versions of it. For instance, you could write a blog called: "5 Ways To Check The Quality Of Stainless Steel Kitchenware Before You Buy" Not only would this blog be of interest to the right people, but it also offers them additional useful information! If you 4. then end the blog by giving the reader the opportunity to download your catalogue in return for their contact information, then you can see that just by including the right kinds of keywords, your content can go from OK, to a sales machine. In this case the reader: 1. Finds your content 2. Is given extra helpful information that people shopping for stainless steel kitchenware might benefit from 3. An opportunity to buy from you 4. Is added to your email list so you can market to them later even if they don't purchase this time 2. Do Keyword Research Before You Start Writing While it may be tempting to just dive in and start writing English content in order to start having a presence online, it's important to first do some keyword research and find keywords which you are likely to rank highly in search engines for. You see, while targeting specific keywords that possible customers may be looking for in your content is a good idea, some keywords just have too many companies trying to be found using them. This means that even if a keyword seems to be a great fit for your company or products, it may in fact be very hard for you to rank highly in search engines for it, and therefore your content won't be shown to those people who are searching. You don't want to waste your time creating great content which won't be seen, so you need to do keyword research in advance and find a number of keywords which: Are possible for you to rank for Return a good number of estimated visits Are related to content you want to create How to do keyword research? 1. Brainstorm possible keywords 2. Use Ubersuggest to expand your list 3. Trim your list to a shortlist 4. Enter your chosen keywords into Google's keyword planner tool (in order to find which return good results and are achievable) 5. Start creating content! This is a short explanation, but you should read our thorough guide here: HOW TO FIND WESTERN CUSTOMERS WITH ENGLISH KEYWORD RESEARCH You should also read our guide on best keyword research tools here: TOP 5 FREE KEYWORD RESEARCH TOOLS 3. Make Sure Your Blog Is A Part Of Your Site 5. When blogging for business, you should NEVER host your blog on Wordpress or Blogger if this can be avoided. You don't own these sites, and so although you may be driving traffic there with great articles, it is not as good as driving it directly to your own site. By doing so, you maximise the chances of someone making a purchase and increase the reputation and get more credit for your website. So when setting up a business blog, be sure that it is a sub-domain of your site. It should look like: www.yoursite.com/blog 4. Keep Things Fresh By Publishing Regular Content Creating great content isn't a 'one and done' task. After you have made the commitment to start producing content in order to increase your brand's reputation and sales, you must be consistent. Despite the effort that this will take, it will return you the benefit of of being found more in search results. This is because search engines love sites who regularly create fresh content. So...you know what to do! 5. Create Content For Customers, Not Search Engines Even though keywords are important, if you shoe-horn them into your content just for the sake of having them, then this will likely make your content read awkwardly. If you are so focussed on creating content in order to rank in search engines, it can be easy to forget to write for human beings! By all means include keywords where relevant, but be sure to write a good selection of different types of topics in order to 'be interesting:' Product-related Industry-related Tips and guides Even topics which aren't ostensibly written to 'sell' something help to cement you as an industry expert, and this builds up your credibility and trust which will later lead to more sales. 6. Don't Overuse Keywords In Your Content How much is too much? Tricky question, but as a rule it's better to use your target keywords sparingly and limit them to only enough that it feels natural. 6. Usually perhaps 5 or 6 times within an entire blog post, including when used in titles, would be enough. If you do overuse them, you risk irritating readers, and being penalised by search engines which do not like content full of certain keywords, and will actively not show it. 7. Use SEO Structure To Your Advantage Both readers and search engines prefer to see blogs and site pages with structure. A part of creating content with good SEO is using titles, headings, and sub-headings to break up any text. In this blog that you're reading right now I am splitting up each of the SEO tips using "H3" title tags. You can see that these sub-headings, under the heading of the tips that you need to be following split up the text and make it easy to find a tip that you want to read about. Not only is this natural for readers, but it' also great for SEO to use some or all of your keywords in these H2 and H3 tags throughout the content (as well as the title). If you do this, it gives a clearer indication to search engines what your content is about, and shows that it's content of a high quality that is worth showing to people who are searching for its topic. 8. Use Images In Your Content Never produce content with no images unless it's absolutely necessary. Most readers like images in content, even if it simply serves to break up text. No one likes reading endless lines of black text on white. You can also add subtle meaning to your content with images, and when they're shared the main image will be displayed in places like social media channels. This, if it's bright and attractive, can help you to get more clicks and reads. Images are also good for SEO. This is because each image has its own title tag, and this will add to your content's SEO and ability to be found in searches. So if you're writing about selling houses, including an image of a house with a for sale sign and including your keyword in its title will only reinforce what this content is about in the eyes of search engines. If they're more positive about your topic, then they will likely show it to more people. 9. Social Media Shares Also Affect SEO If your friends recommend a new TV show or book you're more likely to check it out, right? Social media shares for your content act in a similar way for search engines. If your content has been shared, commented on, and liked a lot in different social media channels, search engines will see this and know that it is popular content and therefore worth showing to more people who are searching for its topic. When you do create content, be sure to always share it on your company's different social media channels. Not sure where to share? Link Internally And Encourage More Places To Link To You No matter if you're writing a blog or creating a new web page, including links back to related older content that you have already published will positively affect SEO. You're also trying to help your readers, and so by offering them 'further reading' about the topic, this helps them become better informed and therefore closer to being ready to make a purchase! If your content does happen to be shared by someone else, for instance on their website, since you have links to older content there it will mean that this content will also be being benefited by having an external link. In the same way as social shares will boost your content's SEO, if other sites link to it it will also cause your content to be shared more as search engines will know that it is popular and so must be of a quality good enough to share with people searching for its topic. How to get more people to link to your content (create 'backlinks')? Create great content Share with people who are likely to be interested Offer to guest post on related websites within your industry Create bright and colourful infographics Create awesome videos Basically, if your content is varied, fun, interesting, and helpful, people will link back to it. So before you publish your next piece of content, ask yourself, "Is this as good as it can be?" Which of these SEO tips will you be using? 8.
