When comparing my own movie magazine to real magazines, it is clear to see the code and conventions that I used to make my magazine look professional and realistic!

COMPARING MY OWN MAGAZINE TO OTHER MOVIE MAGAZINES1. Similar to real life magazines such as total magazine and empire many of these include on a

skyline. I too decided to include a skyline in my magazine. By including a skyline across the top of my magazine was an excellent way of grabbing the attention of my reader.

2. In my own movie magazine, I follow similar conventions that would be seen in many movie magazines. By placing my masthead near the top of the magazine makes it clear for the reader to read off a shelf when my magazine is stacked among others. Also by placing my masthead behind the main image creates the impression that this magazine is popular among it’s readers and does not need to make it’s masthead clear for the audience to recognise the magazine.

3. Another popular convention that can be seen in many magazines are puff’s which are short sentences used to sell the magazine. My puff included the caption “What Superhero are you?! Take the test” by stating this persuades readers to purchase and read the magazine.

4. Similar to movie magazines, I followed the convention of having one main image be placed in the middle of the page and have it spread filling the entire size of the page. For my own magazine similar to Shutter island, I photographed my main actor looking pass the camera making the readers question what she is looking at.

issue beside the main image and had it overlapping the image. By having this coverline in a large size of font and having it over lap the main image makes it clear to the audience that this is the main feature in the issue. This convention can be seen done in many magazines.

6. A popular conventions used in many magazines, is including coverlines on the front cover. By including coverlines on my front cover gives the reader an insight to what other articles are inside.

7. I also included on my front cover a strapline which was placed at the bottom of the page. This strapline advertised another article with featured in my magazine. Straplines are popular conventions which are used commonly in movie magazines.

8. Among many magazines you will see key information about the magazine such as Price, bar code, date, issue number, website and social networking websites logo’s placed usually near corners. I too decided to place this key information near the bottom of my page as I didn’t want to it take the readers attention away from the main issue.
