INTRODUCTION

When producing a film advertising is one of the key elements to making the project a huge success. Companies such as ‘Total Film’ and ‘Empire’ are well-known for movie magazines, usually advertising the latest and biggest movies on the front cover and these can be purchased online or in stores. My movie magazine cover will be advertising the film which my trailer is about, so I will need to think about the target audience, the character images to feature on the cover and the genre. Magazine covers are all about the image and look, people will buy a magazine which appeals to them so I will have to make sure that I have looked closely into target audiences. After identifying conventional aspects of film magazines I can see how these bold and eye catching images are placed in the centre of the page, the main story is the first sentence to catch the audiences eye and everything is arranged to absolute perfection to fit around the image.

The total film mast head is across the top of the cover, similar to most of its magazines making them a more recognisable brand. The huge bold letters make the text easy to read even though the image is in front. The white colour of the text stands out against the dark background and co-ordinates with the other text on the page. It even has a little award printed next to it for ‘the worlds best movie reviews’ which impresses audiences and I could include in my own cover.

The cover image tells the audience who this issue is featuring and in this case we have the release of ‘The Hunger Games’. Although the image is covered by text and boxes we still have a clear view of the character and her appearance, the producers have made sure her braid and dark outfit can be seen and she is making contact with the viewer.

A lot of film magazines have these banners advertising other films or pages inside the magazine that might interest the audiences. Stickers are usually found on any conventional magazine, advertising a story from within which I can consider putting onto my magazine.

Barcodes are found on every conventional magazine and a must for my own cover. This allows the audience to view the price and decide whether on not to purchase, without which people would usually walk away.

The sell line automatically sells the magazine at the first glance. It will give away the article in the magazine about the movie shown on the cover page and also a introduces the new movie. ‘The Hunger Games, inside the most influential film made in years’ and immediately you want to read the article.

More text on actors and actresses giving out the juicy gossip which audiences love. The text is small and doesn’t over power the main headlines but is still clear enough to catch eyes.
