Product Manager for CoffeeCo

• You’re a product manager for CoffeeCo and you want to prioritize some potential new features for a new Coffee maker, the infamous model T-800, with your customers.

• You have a rough estimate of how much each potential feature will cost. These estimates are based on “shirt sizes” – Small, Medium, Large and were provided by your lead engineer.

Here is the guest list for the lobby. We start with 8 slots – in this case the forum had 4 people on the guest list and room for four more.

Participants in light gray have not yet arrived. As participants arrive they are announced and the font is dark.

If people are neither rejected by the black list or accepted by the guest list they are placed here.

If there is NO ROOM for an additional participant they are placed here.

You need to move people here when ready.

The Lobby

Controls to: - start the forum - lock (close) the lobby

Any text you put there is shared with the participants in their lobby.

Facilitating Forums

Page 32: Conteneo Collaboration Cloud Decision Engine

www.conteneo.co

Facilitator Goals / Jobs

• Manage the lobby and the participants• Explains the rules of engagement• Promote negotiations that lead to actionable insights• Ensure the forum ends on time• Maintain neutrality• General guidelines:

• no right or wrong answers• designed to provide insight, not answers• a conversation – ideally, everyone participates

Page 33: Conteneo Collaboration Cloud Decision Engine

www.conteneo.co

Facilitation Guidelines• Avoid making any promises on priorities.• Avoid commitments to specific features / projects /

deliverables.• Never talk negatively about your product or your

competitor’s products.• Never say “That should be easy”. It sets expectations

too high and can kill any negotiation opportunities.• Never say “That is too hard”. It can prematurely stop

conversation about what the customer really wants and ways to achieve this. Besides, hard money

Sample Script (More in the Online Help)Thank you and welcome to the lobby. This is the place where will gather all of the people who will be joining us to prioritize our potential features.

My name is <INSERT YOUR NAME HERE>, and I’ll be your facilitator.

We’re going to be playing Buy a Feature to help prioritize potential features for Project Moonshot. Project Moonshot is our next generation construction management software platform.

When we start the forum, you’ll see 2 windows: (1) a list of features and players, and (2) a group chat.

Each feature is priced to reflect its development cost. Complex features cost more money. A tool-tip will expose details when you rollover a feature’s name in the list.

Your job is to purchase those features that would provide the greatest benefit to you and others within your company and work environment.

To get what you want, you'll most likely need to convince other players to join you. You do this through the chat feature at the lower right. The chat has two entry points: the left entry box is for chats to everyone; the right entry box has a pull-down menu of player names to send a chat directly to another player.

Try to explain why an item is important to another person. For example, “I think X-Y-Z sounds pretty cool” is less convincing than “I think X-Y-Z should be purchased because it will make it easier for me to manage multiple customer sessions.”

We’ll start when everyone is ready. Are we ready?

Start warmly. Be Authentic!

Outline the forum’s purpose.

Provide an overview of the user interface.

Explain how to participate.

Emphasize collaboration.

Ranking Algorithm

1. Fully purchased items rank higher than partially purchased items.

2. When items have been purchased the same number of times partial purchases (Bids) are used next.

3. If items are still tied we use the total time to last purchase to break ties: The faster an item is purchased, and the more stable it stays purchased, the higher the ranking.
