7 Things Baptism Will Not DoRomans 6:6
Introductory Thoughts
Baptism is a New Testament subject, a command of Jesus Christ and is for the remission of sin, yet there are some things baptism will not do.
New Testament baptism is very important, but we should never ascribe to it what the Lord has not.
I want to point out seven things baptism will not do.
Will Not Give One a License to Sin
Romans 6:6.
Romans 6:12.
Romans 6:16-17.
Will Not Keep One from Being Tempted To Commit Sin Again
Temptation will come - Christ an example –Matthew 4:1-11.
Baptism does remove the guilt of sin, but does not make one immune to sin so that he no longer needs to be on guard.
It puts one into a relationship with Christ so that he can overcome temptation - 1 Corinthians 10:13.
Will Not Keep One from Being Tempted To Commit Sin Again
There are many warnings to Christians – Hebrews 6:4-6 – John 15:10-14.
The Christian is told how to keep from falling – 2 Peter 1:5-11.
Told how to obtain forgiveness – Acts 8:18-24.
Will Not Remove the Bitter Fruits of Sin
Yes it is for the remission of sins - Acts 2:38 – Acts 22:16.
Paul never forgot how he had wasted the church.
Will Not Remove All the Problems of One’s Life
2 Timothy 3:12.
We cannot avoid some of life's trying moments even though we have been baptized.
We need to be tested - Christ has promised He will make it easier for us to bear our burdens.
Will Not Relieve a Person of Any Further Responsibility
Christian responsibility only begins at baptism.
Raised to walk a new life - Romans 6:4.
Colossians 3:1.
Ephesians 2:10.
Baptism Will Not Cover Up For One's Lack of Faith and Repentance
Faith – John 8:24 – Hebrews 11:6 – Mark 16:16.
Repentance - Luke 13:3 – Acts 2:38.
Will Not save A Man against His Will
Any act of obedience must be from the heart – Romans 6:17-18.
“They that gladly received his word..." – Acts 2:41.
Closing Thoughts
These are things baptism will not do.
But the Bible teaches that baptism:
Will save one.Is for the remission of sins.
Washes away one's sins.Puts one into Jesus Christ.
Put one in contact with the blood of Jesus.Puts one into the church.
