Rules and Proper Needs for a Salat
• Only adults can carry out Salats. Before you perform a Salat you need to go through the process of Wudu.– Wudu is performed, or a Ritual Ablution. Therefore you need to make sure your area, body, and
clothes are clean. The clothing requirements are :• Women : Any clothing that covers her entire body, hair included. Only acceptable places to show are her face,
toes, and hands.• Men: Any clothing as long as it covers his naval and knees, it is most preferable for them to cover their
shoulders.
• Face Qilba, or direction of Mecca.• Stand erect, head down, feet spaced apart evenly.• Rehearse Iqama, or a private call to the prayer. • Express your intent to perform Salat.
– “I intend to offer _____ rakats of the ____ prayer, and face the Qibla for the sake of Allah and Allah alone.”

• Step 1- Bring your hands to your ears, palms forward, thumbs behind earlobes and say :– God is great.
• Step 2- Place your right hand over your left. For men place it under your navel, women about chest area. Then recite:– Glory to You, O Allah, and Yours is the praise.
And blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your Majesty. And there is no deity to be worshiped but you.
• Step 3- Aloud speak the Fatiha, the first surah of the Qur’an.– In the name of God, the infinitely Compassionate and
Merciful. Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds. The compassionate, the Merciful. Ruler of the Day of Reckoning. You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path, the path of those who received your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath, nor of those who wander astray. Amen.

• Step 4- Drop your hands to your side; bend over, palms by your knees. Make sure your back is parallel to the ground; look at your feet. Recite:– God is great. Holy is my Lord, the Magnificent.
• Step 5- Rise from your position, arms stand at your side. Recite:– Allah listens to him who praises Him. Our
lord, to You is due all praise. God is great.
• Step 6- Drop down to your knees, in a kneeling position. Touch your forehead, nose, and palms to the ground (except elbows). Bend your toes, so your heels face Qibla. Recite:– Glory to my Lord, the Most High. God is
great.

• Step 7- Place yourself in a sitting position, and look into your lap. Men turn their heel of the right foot up. Women keep their feet down. Now recite:– God is great.
• Step 8- Prostrate again. Recite:– Glory to my Lord, the Most High.
God is great.
• Step 9- Rise to the sitting position again. Take a moments pause.

• Step 10- To proceed to the second and fourth rakats, recite:– God is great.
• Step 11- Complete the second rakat and the last rakat by reciting:– All greetings, blessings and good acts are from You, my lord.
Greetings to you, O prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. Peace be unto us, and unto the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad is his servant and messenger.
• Proceed to the third rakat:– God is great. – Recite the Fatiha and continue the third rakat with Ruk’u.
• Step 12- Remain seated recite the At-Tashahhud then the Salawat :– O Allah, bless our Muhammad and the people of
Muhammad; As you have blessed Abraham and the people of Abraham. Surely you are the Praiseworthy, the glorious. O Allah, be gracious unto Muhammad and the people of Muhammad; As you were gracious unto Abraham and the people of Abraham. Surely you are the Praiseworthy the Glorious.
• Look over your right shoulder and recite:– May god receive our prayers.
