As a chakor bird is always looking at the moon, one should always abide by what preceptor says.

रू सो प्रीर्तीी निनबानिहया, जेही र्तीर्ती निनबटई संर्ती |पे्रम निबना धि%ग दूर है, पे्रम निनकर्ती गुरू कंर्ती ||

One can accomplish everything through love.

गुरू निबन ज्ञान न उपजई, गुरू निबन मलई न मोश |गुरू निबन लाखाई ना सत्य को, गुरू निबन धिमटे ना दोष ||

There can’t any knowledge without a Guru, there won’t be any salvation without a Guru, there won’t be any realization of truth without Guru and there won’t be any removal of flaws without Guru.

गुरू मूर्तिर्ती/ अगे खडी, दुनिनया भेद कछू हाही |उन्ही को पना6म करी, सकल निर्तीधिमर धिमटिट जाही ||

Your Guru is there to lead you. There is no need to worry as to how to demystify life. If you abide by your Guru’s teaching there won’t be darkness.- Kabir Das

मूल ध्यान गुरू रूप है, मूल पूजा गुरू पाव |मूल नाम गुरू वचन हाई, मूल सत्य सर्तीभाव ||

Look at the form of your Guru. Worship the lotus feet of your Guru. Listen to the words of your Guru and maintain yourself in the state of truthfulness -Kabir Dasसा%ु शब्द समुद्र है, जामे रत्न भराय |मंद भाग मुट्ठी भरे, कंकर हाथ लगाये ||

A good word said by a realized soul is as deep as ocean. A fool just gains handful sand. -Kabir Das

पूर्ती निपयारौ निपर्तीा कू, गोहनी लागो %ाई |लोभ धिमथाई हाथिथ दे, अपन गयो भुलाई ||

A kid likes his father too much. He follows his father and holds on to him. Father gives him some sweets. The kid enjoys the sweets and the father goes away. We should not forget God when we enjoy his favors. -Kabir Dasभारी कहौ र्तीो बहु दरौ, हलका कहु टू झूर्ती |माई का जानू राम कू, नैनू कभू ना दीथ ||

If I say that Ram is heavy, this arouses fear in mind. If I say that he is light, this is absurd. I don’t know Ram as I haven’t seen him. -Kabir Dasजा कारनी मे ढँूढर्तीी , सन्मुख धिमथिलया आई |%न मैली पीव ऊजला, लागी ना सकौ पाई ||

I was searching him. I met him face to face. He is pure and I am dirty. How can I bow at his feet? -Kabir Das

मेरे  संगी  दोई  जरग , एक  वैष्णो  एक  राम  |वो  है  दार्तीा  मुथिH  का , वो  सुधिमरावै  नाम  ||

I have only two companions, devotees and Ram. They make me remember God and grant salvation. -Kabir Das

संर्ती  न  बं%े  गाठ्दी , पेट  समार्तीा  र्तीेई  |साईं  सू  सन्मुख  रही , जहा  मांगे  र्तीह  देई  ||

There is no need to hoard much. One needs to be upright in one’s behavior always. -Kabir Das

The whole world fears death. I am glad to see death. When shall I die and realize the complete bliss. -Kabir Das

The consciousness should ride horse of love. The sword of knowledge should cause death of death. -Kabir Das

कबीर  हरी  सब  को   भजे , हरी  को   भजै  न  कोई  |जब  लग  आस  सरीर  की , र्तीब  लग  दास  न  होई  ||

God remembers everyone. None remembers God. Those who are concerned about sensual pleasures can’t be devotees of God.

क्या  मुख  ली  निबनर्तीी  करो , लाज  आवर्ती  है  मोनिह  |र्तीुम  देखर्ती  ओगुन  करो , कैसे  भावो  र्तीोही  ||

How should I make God any request? He knows all, he knows my shortcomings. How should he like me with these shortcomings?

सब  काहू  का  लीजिजये , साचा  असद  निनहार  |पछ्पार्ती  ना  कीजिजये  कहै  कबीर  निवचार  ||

You should listen the truth from everyone. There is no need to show any partiality. -Kabir Das

कुमनिर्ती  कीच  चेला  भरा , गुरु  ज्ञान  जल  होय  |जनम  जनम  का  मोचा6 , पल  में  दारे  %ोय  ||

A disciple is full of mud of ignorance. A preceptor is water of knowledge. Whatever impurities are accumulated in many births, he cleans in one moment. -Kabir Das

गुरु  सामान  दार्तीा  नहीं , याचक  सीश  सामान  |र्तीीन  लोक  की  सम्पदा , सो  गुरु  दीन्ही  दान  ||

There is no donor like a preceptor and no seeker like a disciple. Preceptor grants all three worlds to disciple. -Kabir Das

राम  निपयारा  छड़ी  करी , करे  आन   का  जाप  |बेस्या  कर  पूर्ती  ज्यू , कहै  कौन  सू  बाप  ||

If one forgets God and remembers something else, he is like a son of a prostitute who doesn’t know who his father is. -Kabir Das

जो  रोऊ  र्तीो  बल  घटी , हंसो  र्तीो  राम  रिरसाई  |मनही  मानिह  निबसूरना , ज्यँू  घुन  काठी  खाई  ||

Now what should I do. If I weep my energy level goes down. If I laugh Ram doesn’t like that. This dilemma eats my heart like a wood-eater ant. -Kabir Das

सुखिखया सब संसार है , खावै और सोवे |दुखिखया दास कबीर है , जागे अरु रावे  ||

The world is so happy, they eat and sleep. Kabir is so sad he keeps awake and weeps. -Kabir Das

परबर्ती परबर्ती  मै   नि\रया  , नैन गवाए रोई   |सो  बूटी  पौ  नहीं , जर्तीाई जीवनी  होई  ||

Kabir searched from one mount to another mount but he couldn’t get the herb that creates life. -Kabir Das

कबीर  एक  न  जन्या , र्तीो  बहु  जनया  क्या  होई  |एक  र्तीै  सब  होर्ती  है , सब  र्तीै  एक  न  होई  ||

Kabir says that you don’t know the one thing and you know many other things. That one thing can accomplish all, these many things are useless. -Kabir Das

पनिर्तीबरर्तीा मैली भली ,गले कांच को पोर्ती |सब सखिखयाँ में यो टिदपै ,ज्यो  रनिव  ससी  को  ज्योर्ती  ||

A woman committed to her family is looks better in her old robes and lace of glass beads round her neck. She shines amidst her friends as the moon shines amidst stars. -Kabir Das

भगर्तीी  निबगाड़ी  काधिमया , इन्द्री  करे  सवादी  |हीरा  खोया  हाथ  थाई , जनम  गवाया  बाड़ी  ||

A lustful person has damaged his devotion and his sense organs are enjoying the flavor. He has lost a diamond and missed essence of life.

परनारी  रर्तीा  नि\रे , चोरी  निबधि%र्तीा  खाही  |टिदवस  चारी  सरसा  रही , अनिर्ती  समूला  जानिह  ||

A man who takes delight in a woman belonging to others runs as a thief in nights. He derives mean pleasure for few days and then perishes with all his roots. -Kabir Das

कबीर  कथिल  खोटी  भाई , मुनिनयर  धिमली  न  कोय  |लालच  लोभी  मस्कारा , टिट/कू  आदर  होई  ||

This is the age of Kaliyug. Here a man who practices sense restraint is rare. People abound with greed, covetousness and trifles. -Kabir Das

कबीर  माया   मोनिहनी  , जैसी   मीठी   खांड   | सर्तीगुरु   की  कृपा  भई , नहीं  र्तीोउ  करर्तीी  भांड  ||

The delusion is very sweet in its action over mind. Thanks God that I got blessings of my preceptor otherwise I would have been blank.

राम  बुलावा  भेजिजया , टिदया  कबीरा  रोय  |जो  सुख  सा%ू  संग  में , सो  बैकंुठ  न  होय  ||

Ram is calling Kabir. Kabir is weeping. Kabir has more regard for association with good people than association with God. -Kabir Das

संगर्तीी  सो  सुख  उपजे , कुसंगनिर्ती  सो  दुःख  होय  |कह  कबीर   र्तीह  जाइए , सा%ू  संग  जहा  होय  ||

A good association creates happiness and an evil one creates misery. One should always be amidst good people. -Kabir Das

साहेब  र्तीेरी  सानिहबी , सब  घट  रही  समाय  |ज्यो  मेहंदी  के  पार्ती  में , लाली  राखी  न  जाय  ||

My Master, your mastery is there in all beings. In the same way as redness is there in Henna. -Kabir Das

साईं  आगे  सांच  है , साईं  सांच  सुहाय  |चाहे  बोले  केस  रख , चाहे  घौर्ती  मुंडाय  ||

God sees truth. God likes truth. One may grow long hair or may shave all hair. -Kabir Das

लकड़ी  कहे  लुहार  की , र्तीू  मनिर्ती  जारे  मोनिह  |एक  टिदन  ऐसा  होयगा , मई  जरौंगी  र्तीोही  ||

A wood says to a blacksmith that today for the sake of your livelihood you are burning me. One day I will burn you on pyre. -Kabir Das

ज्ञान  रर्तीन  का  जर्तीानकर , माटिट  का  संसार  |आय  कबीर  नि\र  गया , \ीका  है  संसार  ||

One should care for the gem of knowledge. The mundane existence is worthless. Kabir has turned his back on the world as the world is livid. -Kabir Das

रिरजिc  थिसजिc  मांगंू नहीं , माँगू  र्तीुम  पी  यह  |निनथिशटिदन  दश6न  सा%ू  को , प्रभु  कबीर  कहू   देह  ||

Kabir is not asking God for material wealth. He is asking favor of having a good person in his sight forever. -Kabir Das

न  गुरु  धिमल्या  ना  थिसष  भय , लालच  खेल्या  डाव  |दुनयू  बड़े  %ार  में , छ%ी  पाथर  की  नाव  ||

Those who are driven by greed lose their status of disciple and preceptor. Both of them sink midstream as they boarded a boat of stone. -Kabir Das

कबीर  सर्तीगुर  ना  धिमल्या , रही  अ%ूरी  सीश  |स्वांग  जानिर्ती  का  पहरी  कर , घरी  घरी  मांगे  भीष  ||

Those who don’t find a good preceptor ever gain an incomplete knowledge. They wear robes of a recluse and beg door to door.

यह  र्तीन  निवष  की  बेलरी , गुरु  अमृर्ती  की  खान  |सीस  टिदए  जो  गुरु  धिमले , र्तीो  भी  सस्र्तीा  जान  ||

This body is a bag of poison. The preceptor is a mine of nectar. If you get a preceptor by sacrificing your head, that should be a cheap deal.

जो  र्तीू  चाहे  मुथिH  को , छोड़  दे  सबकी  आस  |मुH  ही  जैसा  हो  रहे , सब  कुछ  र्तीेरे  पास  ||

If you want salvation you should end all desires. Once you gain salvation you gain everything. -Kabir Das

I wasted those days when I didn’t meet good people. A person without love is a beast. There is no divinity without love. -Kabir Das

र्तीन  को  जोगी  सब  करे , मन  को  निबरला  कोय  |सहजी  सब  निबधि%  निपये , जो  मन  जोगी  होय  ||

It is very easy to put marks of a sage on body but it is very difficult to make marks of sage on mind. If one becomes a sage at the level of mind he is at ease while doing anything. -Kabir Das

नहाये  %ोये  क्या  हुआ , जो  मन  मेल  न  जाय  |मीन  सदा  जल  में  रही , %ोये  बॉस  न  जाय  ||

What is the point in washing and cleaning? A fish remains in water always and it has a very bad smell. –Saint Kabir Das

पत्ता  बोला  वृक्ष  से , सुनो  वृक्ष  बनराय  |अब  के  निबछडे़  न  धिमले , दूर  पड़ेंगे  जाय  ||

A leaf says to a tree that it is going away forever and there won’t be any reunion now. Saint Kabir Das

माया  छाया  एक  सी , निबरला  जाने  कोय  |भागर्ती  के  पीछे  लगे , सन्मुख  भागे  सोय  ||

A shadow and a delusion are alike. They chase them who run away and disappear from their sight that looks at them. Saint Kabir Das

या  दुनिनया  में  आ  कर , छड़ी  डे  र्तीू  एट  |लेना  हो  सो  थिलले , उठी  जार्ती  है  पैठ  ||

One should not swagger here. One should do all the deals without wasting any time as the working hours will be soon over. Saint Kabir Das

कबीरा  गरब  ना  कीजिजये , कभू  ना  हाथिसये  कोय  |अजहू  नाव   समुद्र  में , ना  जाने  का   होए  ||

Don’t, don’t feel proud. Don’t laugh at others. Your life is a ship in ocean you don’t know what may happen the very next moment.

कबीरा  कलह  अरु  कल्पना , सैट  संगर्तीी  से  जाय  |दुःख  बासे  भगा  नि\रे , सुख  में  रही  समाय  ||

If you associate with good people you may put an end to conflicts and baseless imaginations. That will put an end to your plight and make your life blissful. Saint Kabir Das

काह  भरोसा  देह  का , निबनस  जार्ती  छान  मारही  |सांस  सांस  सुधिमरन  करो , और  यर्तीन  कुछ  नाही  ||

There is no guarantee that this body will be there the next moment. You should remember God every moment you live. Saint Kabir Das

कुटिटल  बचन  सबसे  बुरा , जासे  हॉट  न  हार  |सा%ू  बचन  जल  रूप  है , बरसे  अमृर्ती  %ार  ||

A bad word said to cause agony to others is the worst thing in this world. None gets defeated on listening to bad words. A good word that soothes others is like water and it showers nectar on those who listen. Saint Kabir Das

कबीरा  लोहा  एक  है , गढ़ने  में  है  \ेर  |र्तीानिह  का  बख्र्तीर  बने , र्तीानिह  की  शमशेर  ||

The same metal takes different forms. Saint Kabir Das

कबीरा  सोर्तीा  क्या  करे , जागो  जपो  मुरार  |एक  टिदन  है  सोवना , लंबे  पाँव  पसार  ||

Why are you sleeping? Please get up and remember God. There will be a day when one will have to sleep with legs stretched out forever.

कबीरा  आप  ठागइए , और  न  ठनिगये  कोय  |आप  ठगे  सुख  होर्ती  है , और  ठगे  दुःख  होय  ||

One should fool oneself and not others. He who fools others becomes miserable. There is no harm in fooling oneself as one knows the truth sooner or later. Saint Kabir Das

गारी  ही  से  उपजे , कलह  कष्ट  और  भीच  |हारी  चले  सो  सा%ू  है , लागी  चले  र्तीो  नीच  ||

A word of abuse creates conflicts, hardships and death. A good person puts an end to a word of abuse then and there. A base person nurtures every word of abuse. Saint Kabir Das Kabir Ke Dohe

जा  पल  दरसन  सा%ू  का , र्तीा  पल  की  बथिलहारी  |राम  नाम  रसना  बसे , लीजै  जनम  सु%ारी  ||

What a great moment it was. I met a good person. I chanted Ram and did good to my whole life. Saint Kabir Das

जो  र्तीोकू  कांर्तीा  बुवाई , र्तीानिह  बोय  र्तीू  \ूल  |र्तीोकू  \ूल  के  \ूल  है , बंकू  है  निर्तीरशूल  ||

If someone sows a thorny cactus for you, you should sow a flower plant for him. You will get many flowers and others will have thorns.

\ल  कारन  सेवा  करे , करे  ना  मन  से  काम  |कहे  कबीर  सेवक  नहीं , चाहे  चौगुना  दाम  ||

He is not doing anything to serve God. He expects four times return for whatever he does. He is not a devotee of God. Saint Kabir Das

Kabir Ke Dohe

कबीरा  यह  र्तीन  जार्ती  है , सके  र्तीो  ठौर  लगा  |कई  सेवा  कर  सा%ू  की , कई  गोनिवन्द  गुण  गा  ||

Kabir says that this body of ours is approaching death. We should do something worthwhile. We should serve good people. We should remember virtue of God. Saint Kabir Das

सोना  सज्जन  सा%ू  जन , टूट  जुड़े  सौ  बार  |दुज6न  कुम्भ  कुम्हार  के , एइके  ढाका  दरार  ||

Good people won’t take time to be good again even after something is done to distance them away. Gold is malleable and not brittle. Bad people won’t return and stay away forever if something happens with them. Earthen pot made by a pitcher is brittle and once broken it is broken forever.

जग  में  बैरी  कोई  नहीं , जो  मन  शीर्तील  होय  |यह  आपा  र्तीो  डाल  दे , दया  करे  सब  कोए  ||

There are no enemies in the world if our mind is cool. If we don’t have ego all are merciful to us. Saint Kabir Das

पे्रमभाव  एक  चानिहए , भेष  अनेक  बनाय  |चाहे  घर  में  वास  कर , चाहे  बन  को  जाए  ||

You may stay at home or you may go to woods. If you want to remain connected with God, you should have love in your heart.

सा%ू  सर्तीी  और  सुरमा , इनकी  बार्ती  अगाढ़  |आशा  छोडे़  देह  की , र्तीन  की  अनथक  सा%  ||

A good person, a lady that burns ablaze on the pyre of her husband and a brave man do something very great. They are not at all concerned with what happens to their body. Saint Kabir Das

हरी  सांगर्ती  शीर्तील  भय , धिमनिर्ती  मोह  की  र्तीाप  |निनथिशवासर  सुख  निनधि% , लाहा  अन्न  प्रगर्ती  आप्प   ||

Those who realize God become calm and cool. They put an end to their heat of infatuation. They are blissful day and night.

आवर्ती  गारी  एक  है , उलटन  होए  अनेक  |कह  कबीर  नहीं  उलटिटए , वही  एक  की  एक  ||

If someone says us a word of abuse, we give back many words of abuse. Kabir says that we should not do that. Let one word of abuse remain one only.

उज्जवल  पहरे  कापड़ा , पान  सुपारी  खाय  |एक  हरी  के  नाम  निबन , बं%ा  यमपुर  जाय  ||

The robes are very impressive. The mouth is full of fresheners. But see if you want to avoid hell you should remember God. Saint Kabir Das

अवगुण  कहू  शराब  का , आपा  अहमक  होय  |मानुष  से  पशुआ  भय , दाम  गाँठ  से  खोये  ||

A person loses his balance if he takes liquor. He becomes a beast by spending his own money. Saint Kabir Das
