2. REFLECTIONSIN THE KUBOR 3. ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:FOUR CORNERS1.What is DEATH?2.What is AL-AKHIRAH?3.What is AL-JANNAH?4.What is AN-NAR? 4. SETTING THE CONTEXT:OBJECTIVES: Define death and Al-Akhirah. Identify its significance. Explain the scenes of Al-Akhirah. Prepare good deeds for the life after death. 5. MINI LECTURE: DEATH -Separation of soul from the body; it receives reward and punishment and the separation of the soul from the body means loss of power of the soul over the body. AL-AKHIRAH -Is often translated as life after death. -Is also interpreted as the ends of life as opposed to the dunya or here-and-now of life. -It begins with the resurrection of man, after which there will come a moment when every human will be shaken as he confronted with his intentions and his deeds, good and bad, and even his failure to do good in this life. 6. THE HEREAFTER: desirable and necessary Without the idea of the Hereafter of resurrection, andjudgment and just recompense, God would not be the justand wise and merciful God that He is. God created people and made them responsible for theiractions. If there is no future life in which the virtuous are rewardedand the vicious suffer loss, there would be no justice. There would be no purpose in creating people with a senseof responsibility and sending prophets to them to remindthem of these responsibilities if there is no future life. It is necessary to clarify the purposes of life so that men maysee clearly the real ends of life and what they have beenstriving for. 7. God says in the Quran: Or do those who earn evil deeds think that We shall hold themequal with those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah IslamicMonotheism) and do righteous good deeds, in their present life andtheir death? Worst is the judgment that they make. And Allah hascreated the heavens and the earth with truth, in order that eachperson may be recompensed what he has earned, and they will notbe wronged. 45:21-22 8. SCENES OF THE HEREAFTER:A) The ResurrectionAt a time when God sees fit, the world as we know it willbe brought to an end in a terrifying cosmic cataclysm andall will be brought to account.God says in the Quran:When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. And man will say: What is the matter with it? That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil). Because your Lord has inspired it. That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups, that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. Az-Zalzalah:1-8 9. The Quranic descriptions of Resurrection and the Last Dayspeak of the present universe and a dislocation of theheavens and the earth, and of mankind as being like scatteredlocusts and the mountains like carded wool. Nothing, however, will be outside Gods control and power for the earth will bein His hand-grip on the Day of Resurrection and the heavenswrapped up in His right hand (39:67). After the upheaval, transformation will take place out of which will come a newform of level of creation: We have indeed decreed that deathshall be [ever-present] among you, but there is nothing to preventUs from changing the nature of your existence and bringing youinto being (anew) in a manner as yet unknown to you. [56:60-62] 10. B) The Judgment Just as each person is born as a single individual, so he or shewill be raised up and judged individually. A record of each persons deeds on earth will have beenkept and will be produced as evidence on the Day ofJudgment. No person will be able to deny the contents of this recordand the parts of his body his feet, and skin will testifyagainst him. Many will wish for another chance to makeamends, but in vain. A person will be judged by the preponderance of good orevil in him. 11. God says in the Quran:And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it. And Sufficient are We as Reckoners. 21:47C) The Recompense3.PUNISHMENT and HELL The fruits of ingratitude, disobedience, and rebellion against Godis disgrace, humiliation and punishment. This punishment, is a sign ofGods just anger (ghadab) will be visited on the sinners even on earth,as was the case with the people of Sodom.God says: And on the Day when those who were bent on denying the truth areexposed to the Fire (and will be told): You dissipated your good things in yourworldly life and you took your enjoyment in them; therefore today you shallbe recompensed with the reprimand of humiliation for having glorified onearth in your arrogance, offending against all that is right, and for all yourevil doings. 46: 19-20 12. CATEGORIES OF WRONG-DOERS:1. There are those who completely deny the existence of God, whose moral sense is blunted, and whose hearts become rusted, who live a life of evil and spread corruption on earth.2. There are hypocrites, who spread dissension and strife while pretending to be doers of good or even to be believers.3. There are believers who commit minor lapses or even grave crimes in moments of temptation, weakness, or forgetfulness. 13. 2. REWARD and PARADISE The fruits of submission to God, of living in harmony with Hiswills, of living the natural way, is satisfaction (ridwaan) in thislife and eternal happiness in the next. God says in the Quran: Allah has promised to the believers - men and women - ,Gardens which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautifulmansions in Gardens of Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss isthe Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the Supreme Success. 9:72 14. CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING OF THE TOPIC:1. What is DEATH?2. Why AL-AKHIRAH is significant?3. Explain the scenes of AL-AKHIRAH?4. What kind of deeds are we going to prepare for the next life? 15. CLOSURE: What will you do when you get up on next morning seeing yourself lying down with your family and friends crying beside your body? People forget DEATH in split of seconds, but death NEVER forgets you and the best enemy that you have right now other than SHAYTAN is TIME, because every tic-tac of it is a countdown to your last breath! So let us prepare ourselves for the HEREAFTER, because it is our TRUE HOME! 16. ~SHUKRAN~
