God Gives Us His Words of Eternal LifeLuke 9:1-9

Today’s Scripture:

And he called the twelve together

Luke 9:1-2

and gave them power and authorityover all demons and to cure diseases,and he sent them out to proclaim thekingdom of God and to heal….

The kingdom of God!is simply !

the kind rule of God.

“The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard

shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf

and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall

lead them…The nursing child shall play over the

hole of the cobra,

~ Isaiah 11:6, 8-9

“…and the weaned child shall put his hand on the

adders’ den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the

earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

~ Isaiah 11:6, 8-9

This Age The Age to Come

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim

good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim liberty

to the captives and recovering of sight to the

blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the

Lord’s favor.”

I must preach the good news of the kingdom…;

for I was sent for this purpose.

for your journey, no staff, nor bag, norbread, nor money; and do not have two tunics….”

And they departed and went throughthe villages, preaching the gospeland healing everywhere….

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about

Luke 9:7-8

all that was happening, and was per-plexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, by some that Elijah had appear-ed, and by others that one of the

prophets of old had risen. Herod said,

Luke 9:8-9

“John I beheaded, but who is thisabout whom I hear such things?”And he sought to see him.

Why does Luke record this account in his historical

biography of Jesus?

To be a follower of Christ is to move out of our comfort zone

and participate in the mission of Jesus.
