We need to learn to play the game of life.

ਬਾਜੀਗਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਚੇਤਿ ਢਾਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੩॥The world is a

game, O Kabeer, so throw the dice

consciously. ||3|| 482

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਣਾ ਕੀਓ ਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਿੈ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥ You Yourself created the creation; You Yourself infused Your power into it.

ਦੇਖਤਹ ਕੀਿਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਤਰ ਕਚੀ ਪਕੀ ਸਾਰੀਐ ॥ You behold Your creation, like the losing and winning dice of the earth. ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਚਿਸੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਈ ਵਾਰੀਐ ॥ Whoever has come, shall depart; all shall have their turn.

ਤਜਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਣ ਹਤਹ ਤਕਉ ਸਾਤਹਬੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਤਵਸਾਰੀਐ ॥ He who owns our soul, and our very breath of life - why should we forget that Lord and Master from our minds? ਆਪਣ ਹਥੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰੀਐ ॥੨੦॥ With our own hands, let us resolve our own affairs. ||20|| 475

ਿਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਿੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਤਮ ਨ ਧਰੇ ਤਪਆਰੁ ॥ ਗੁਣ ਛੋਤਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਹੋਤਹ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਹਾਤਰਆ ਤਕਿੁ ਆਏ ਸੰਸਾਤਰ ॥

Those who are entangled in the three gunas

do not love the Naam. Forsaking virtue, they

practice evil; they shall be miserable in the

Court of the Lord. They lose their life in the

gamble; why did they even come into the

world? 1284

3 qualities of Maya

ਉਦਮ ਕਰਤਹ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਤਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਗਾਵਹੀ ॥ਭਰਮਤਹ ਜੋਤਨ ਅਸੰਖ ਮਤਰ ਜਨਮਤਹ ਆਵਹੀ ॥ ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸੈਿ ਿਰਵਰ ਗਣਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੋਵਤਸ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਤਹ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਵਏ ॥ ਰਿਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਾਰੰਿ ਜੂਐ ਪਰਭੂ ਆਤਪ ਨ ਭਾਵਹੀ ॥ਤਬਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮਤਹ ਭਰਮਾਏ ਤਖਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਤਿਕਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ॥੨॥

He makes all sorts of efforts, but he does not sing the Lord's Name.He wanders around in countless incarnations; he dies, only to be born again.

As beasts, birds, stones and trees - their number cannot be known.

As are the seeds he plants, so are the pleasures he enjoys; he receives the consequences of his own actions.

He loses the jewel of this human life in the gamble, and God is not pleased with him at all. Prays Nanak, wandering in doubt, he does not find any rest, even for an instant. ||2|| 705

ਿਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮਤਰ ਮਤਰ ਜਨਮੇ ਤਿਤਰ ਤਿਤਰ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੋਇਆ ॥੨॥

The 8.4 millions species of beings

die, and die again, and are born over and over again. They are consigned to

reincarnation. ||2||998

ਅੰਿਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਿਜ ਉਿਭੁਜ ਸਤਭ ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਿ ਉਪਈਆ ॥

Life is born from the egg, from the womb, from

self generation and the earth;

God created the beings and creatures of all colors and forms. 835

Hard work is the key to winning

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠਾ ਚੇਿਤਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ਆਿਸੀਆ ॥੨॥

Cheated and plundered by Maya, you do not

think of God, and you waste your life in

laziness. ||2|| 92

There are Cheaters

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਠੀ ਜੀਉ ਤਬਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥

She is cheated by the love of duality, without

the Word of the Guru's Shabad. 244

ਬਹੁਿੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਤਹ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਭਤਵ ਭਤਵ ਭਰਮਤਹ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥ The religious fanatics wear all sorts of

religious robes.

They roll around and wander around, like

the false dice on the board. 842

ਤਜਉ ਸਾਤਹਬ ਨਾਤਿ ਨ ਹਾਰੀਐ ਿੇਵੇਹਾ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਿੀਐ॥

ਤਕਛੁ ਿਾਹੇ ਉਪਤਰ ਘਾਿੀਐ ॥੨੧॥ So throw the dice in such a way, that you

shall not lose with your Lord and Master. Do

those deeds which shall bring you profit.

||21||

ਇਨ੍ਹ ਤਬਤਧ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਿਹੁ ਬੀਰ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਤਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਤਦਨੁ ਰਾਿੀ ਅੰਿ ਕਾਤਿ ਨਹ ਿਾਗੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ In this way, throw the dice, O brothers. As

Gurmukh, chant the Naam, night and day. At

the very last moment, you shall not have to

suffer in pain. ||1||Pause|| 1185

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਿੇ ਜਨ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਹਾਰਤਹ ਢਾਤਿ ਜੁ ਜਾਨਤਹ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

Says Kabeer, those humble beings who

know how to throw these dice, never lose

the game of life. ||4||4|| 793

ਰਸਨਾ ਜਤਪ ਜਤਪ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਪਰਭ ਅੰਿਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ ਤਜਤਨ ਸੇਤਵਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

The tongue lives by chanting and meditating

on the Lord's Name. The Supreme Lord God

is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

Those who serve the Lord find peace; they

do not lose their lives in the gamble. ||2|| 107
