THE LINEOUT• The lineout is a method of restarting play when the ball

has gone into touch. The opposing forward packs, line up in two parallel lines with roughly a one meter gap in between them.

• The ball is then thrown down the middle of these two lines usually by the hooker, however any player is able to throw in at the lineout. The ball is then contested by players who are lifted into the air by their assisting team mates in an attempt to catch the ball mid flight.

LOOSE PLAYERS

Provide a secondary jumping or lifting option and a good insurance policy as they are in a good position to clean up any overthrows, or are used as non jumping option either receiving the ball from a long throw or as support joining a maul when the ball has been secured on the ground. They need to react quickly and play a dynamic role depending on the outcome of the lineout.
