Season• This season of NCAA basketball was one that would

be perfect for a sports book. Looking ahead, though, which are the teams that are most likely to prevail next year?

• The best teams for the 2013-14 games, despite my biases against some of them, will probably be some of the ones we saw make it to the top this year.


10) Syracuse. Thanks to coach Jim Boeheim, this team will excel despite losing two of its best players this year.


• They went to the Final Four this year, and next year, the Orange might take it all the way to the top.


9) Marquette. They slid into the Elite Eight this season, and coach Buzz Williams is probably itching to bring the team further next year.

• With most of its crucial players staying on, this team has a solid chance.


8) North Carolina. The Tar Heels already have five championships to their name.

• Nate Britt has been added as a point guard along with several other recruits, and the resulting combination of players could make history.


7) Florida. The Gators took a hit this year, losing Rik Murphy, Kenny Boynton, and Mike Rosario.

• Still, with the addition of Kasey Hill, they may be able to make a comeback next season.


6) Ohio State. These guys lost big-scorer Deshaun Thomas, but have four great starters returning.

5) Duke. Mike Krzyzewski, or "Coach K" as the team calls him, has not only coached Duke, but the Olympic basketball team as well.

• With Quinn Cook and Jabari Parker onboard for next year, the other teams might have to watch themselves.


4) Arizona. Led by Sean Miller and featuring Nick Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, this team could show us some moves usually reserved for sports fiction stories.

3) Michigan State. The green-and-white clad team led by Tom Izzo made it to the Sweet Sixteen this year.

• Perhaps next year they can take their game even further.


2) Louisville. Hopefully Russ Smith, this team's best scorer, will pass on the NBA draft for one more year.

• After all, the team is already losing Peyton Siva, arguably the team's leader. Terry Rozier and Chris Jones, both point guards, could step in.


1) Kentucky. The Wildcats could face-off against its aforementioned neighbor in what could become one for the books--or perhaps just a sports novel.

• Julius Randle and James Young could, along with the rest of the team, carry the school to victory.
