  Dr. John Murray is a Sports Psychologist.

  He primarily works with NFL players , as well as professional golf and tennis players.

  Sports Psychologist help athletes do a number of things. These tasks include :

-  Enhancing performance -  Helping athletes Cope

with pressure -  Recover from injury -  Keep up an exercise

program -  And finally enjoy

Sports.

  Murray started as a Tennis Coach.   He had a BA in Psychology from Loyala

University. He then went to Florida and received master degrees in Sport Psychology and Clinical Psychology. Finally he received a PhD in Clinical Psychology.

  He became an intern at Washington State University and later a fellowship at FIU.

  Finally , He opened his own private practice in Florida

  “ To be a sports psychologist you have to wear many hats and credentials…the only way to do it is to become a licensed psychologist… but a license is not enough. You also have to have studied sport sciences – the physical bases of sport- the movement sciences, the biology… the hardest part to acquire is the hands on training…”- John Murray

  Dr. Murray enjoys playing the piano and metal detecting.

  He as also helped NFL quarterbacks overcome slumps, coached tennis at major tournaments like the Australian Open and Wimbledon, trained athletes at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and UFC 100 in Las Vegas.

  Born on July 3, 1967   From Rockville Centre , New York   General Manager and Senior Vice President of

New York Yankees.

  Received a Bachelor’s Degree from the Catholic University of America in 1989.

  Became an intern with the NYY in 1986 and worked his way up to be a baseball operations assistant by 1989.

  Promoted to assistant farm director in 1990   Named assistant GM in 1992   Became Yankees GM and Senior Vice President

in 1998 at age of 30.

  Brian Cashman played college baseball.

  Jim Thome , currently in Front Office of White Sox- this is a way to stay part of the game.

  It is a way to be a part of the game without on field experience and a way for retired players to continue their passion.

  Billy Beane , General Manager of the Oakland Athletics, feels the toughest challenge is evaluating skill and putting a price on it.

  Multiple GM’s referred to losing as the toughest part.
