Introduction An experienced business analyst and project manager,

Angelique Tostee appreciates how exercise and the solitude of nature can alleviate the stress of an average day and is especially fond of trail running and mountain biking. Angelique Tostee has also competed in a number of triathlon events.

One of the unique challenges athletes contend with during a triathlon is the transition from swimming to cycling and, later, from cycling to running. While the latter transition may involve little more than a change of shoes, moving from the water to a bike is a bit more tricky. The transition should begin the moment an athlete emerges from the water.

Transition He or she should immediately begin peeling off their

swimming gear. Both event officials and spectators are permitted to assist in a transition, so in the event that a wetsuit poses an unexpected problem, for example, competitors can ask for help without hesitation. Keeping slip-on water shoes nearby can also be helpful, as some beaches may be especially hot or rocky.

The next phase of transition involves physically locating one’s bike in the transition area. Individuals can highlight their bike from others by tying a bright or distinctly patterned towel to the handlebars. During Iron Man events, organizers are expected to set up a specific changing area.

Conclusion During shorter events, however, many

athletes put on their cycling gear directly over their bathing suits. A typical transition area includes a place to rinse sand from one’s feet.

After athletes have gathered all the necessary cycling equipment, including a helmet and a water bottle, they can walk their bikes out of the transition area and begin to ride. Any person caught riding in the transition area may face disqualification.
