Main Slide
QUIT
Plasma Membrane Composed of fluid-
like phospholipid bilayer, proteins, cholesterol and glycoproteins.
Acts as a cell boundary
Allows nutrients to enter the cell, while waste exits
Cell Membrane
QUIT
Liquid-like material outside Nucleus
Made up of cytosol (or gluclose, CO2, and O2, etc.)
Site for metabolic activity
Houses all other cell organelles
Cytoplasm
QUIT
The ‘Control Center“’
Contains genetic material for the cell (DNA/Chromo-somes)
Control cellular activity via genes
Nucleus
QUIT
Organelle where protein synthesis takes place
Some ribosomes are housed in the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Others float freely in the cytoplasm
Ribosome
QUIT
Interconnecting, flattened, tubular tunnels
Contains ribosomes
Involved in protein synthesis
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
QUIT
More interconnecting, flattened, tubular tunnels
Does not contain Ribosomes (thus giving it a smooth appearance)
Involved in lipid synthesis
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
QUIT
Composed of small membranous sacs
Packaging center for molecules
Involved in carbohydrate synthesis
Golgi Apparatus
QUIT
Membrane-bound sacs of enzymes
Contains hydrolytic enzymes for intracellular digestion
Break down old parts of the cell for reuse.
Lysosome
QUIT
The “Power House” of the cell
Primary energy source for the cell
Produces ATP Watch this video o
n ATP production!
