Historically , I.T. functions were established to implement a systems

strategy that was characterised by transactional line of business

applications – Account Administration ; General Ledgers. This mirrored

the Silo-based hierarchy of business. Business has now evolved into flatter, horizontal structures where

Information Management, collaboration and business processes that

extend beyond the company are the norm. The are currently undergoing significant change – establishing new,

relevant Operating Models ; agreeing business objectives ; establishing

resource plans and identifying current & future information needs. Investment in technology has not kept pace with the changing

business landscape. Important to note that a Technology Architecture is only One of Three

Architectures normally present in a business – an Information and a

Business Architecture being the others.

“A body continues at rest or in motion unless it is compelled to change by forces on it.

The change is proportional to the force and in the direction of the force. To every action, there is always opposed an equal reaction.”

Isaac Newton, 1687

“Change is not so much about doing new things – that is usually quite easy. The real challenge is stopping doing the old things.”

“If you think the cost of changing is high, you should think about the cost of not changing.”

John F Kennedy, 1960
