Note 2:

These guidelines cannot cover every eventuality likely to be encountered in the conversion process. If in doubt, consult me (or Mo); we might not have the correct answer, but at least we should end up with a consistent approach, and I will try to incorporate commonly encountered problems in this guide.

Note 3:

These guidelines were written to cover the conversion of pre-Release-4 specs to Release-4. With a little care, they can also be employed when converting earlier releases of the GSM specs to the 3GPP format. The only real difference is that the spec number retains its old aa.bb format rather than the new aa.0bb format.

WARNING!

Many GSM specs have non-standard structure. The structure of the original specs must be preserved; the following instructions should therefore be adapted to the circumstances of each individual spec.

that unspecific references should be

taken to refer to specifications of the

same Release.

In the (initially empty) Change history table from the new doc skeleton, which should be at the very end of the new doc, fill in the first line indicating the date, as subject "Conversion to 3GPP layout and number.", and indicate in the "old" column the original GSM spec number and version; and in the new the resulting new spec number and version.

You will need to reduce the font size of

the spec number (only) to avoid an

unwanted line break.

Note to previous slide:

If you are dealing with a pre-Release-4 spec, you can simply retain the existing change history table and add the new line(s) justifying the change in the usual way.

Check that all references listed in the References clause are actually mentioned in the body of the spec. Eliminate those which are not (leave the entry in the list, but replace the identity of the referenced document with "(void)”).

(Do not re-use the entries for new references, which must always be appended to the end of the list.)
