2. ZIP DISK A zip disk is a computer hardware device thatstores data. A zip disk drive is somewhat like floppydisk drive, only that the size of disks inserted intothe devices are different. Where a normal floppydisk can hold about 1.44 megabytes of data, a zipdisk can hold around 100 megabytes of data 3. 3.5~INCH FLOPPY DISKA floppy disk is a disk storage medium composed of adisk of thin and flexible magnetic storage medium, sealed in a rectangular plastic carrier lined with fabricthat removes dust particles. They are read and writtenby a floppy disk drive (FDD). 4. MINI DVD MiniDVD is known also as "3 inch DVD", referringto its approximate diameter in inches. A MiniDVD can be played back in most Blu Ray andDVD players that are tray loaded. The trays onplayers and DVD drives have an inner ring wherethe 8 cm disc is centered for loading in the player. Most slot loading players cannot use this format;there are exceptions, however, such as thePlayStation 3 and the Wii, but not the Wii U. Bothofficially support 8 cm discs 5. CD~RW A CD-RW (Compact Disc-ReWritable) is a rewritable optical disc. Itwas introduced in 1997, and was known as "CD-Writable" duringdevelopment. It was preceded by the CD-MO, which was nevercommercially released. CD-RW disc require a more sensitive laser optics. Also, CD-RWscannot be read in some CD-ROM drives built prior to 1997. CD-ROMdrives will bear a "MultiRead" certification to show compatibility. 6. MINI CD Mini CDs, or pocket CDs are CDs with a smallerdiameter and one third the capacity 7. DVD~RW A DVD-RW (Rewritable Less) is a rewritable DVDwhich can record and erase the information severaltimes. The standard capacity is 4.7 GB.It was created by Pioneer in November 1999 and isopposed to format DVD + RW, further supported byPanasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, NEC, Samsung, Sharp, Apple Computer and the DVD Forum. 8. TAPE DRIVE A tape drive is a data storage device that reads andperforms digital recording, writes data on amagnetic tape. Magnetic tape data storage istypically used for offline, archival data storage. Tapemedia generally has a favorable unit cost and longarchival stability. 9. Flash memories 10. COMPACT FLASH (CF)Is a mass storage device format used in portableelectronic devices. Most CompactFlash devicescontain flash memory in a standardized enclosure. The format was first specified and produced bySanDisk in 1994. The physical format is now used for a variety ofdevices 11. MINI MMC is a storage device that retains information that hasbeen stored correctly even with the loss of energy, that is, memory is a memory card voltil. is amemory chip that holds its content without power 12. FLASH MEMORIES is a non-volatile computer storage chip that can beelectrically erased and reprogrammed. It wasdeveloped from EEPROM (electrically erasableprogrammable read-only memory) and must beerased in fairly large blocks before these can berewritten with new data. The high density NANDtype must also be programmed and read in(smaller) blocks, or pages, while the NOR typeallows a single machine word (byte) to be written orread independently. 13. SECURE DIGITAL (SD)is a non-volatile memory card format developed bythe SD Card Association (SDA) for use in portabledevices. The SD technology is used by more than400 brands across dozens of product categoriesand more than 8,000 models. 14. TRANSFLASH O MICRO SD is the most common used memory card in mobilephones and the SD Card Associations objective isto make microSD a de facto memory card standardfor all mobile phones. All TransFlash and microSDcards always come with a SD Memory Cardadaptor, which makes them compatible to all SDMemory Card slots. The microSD is about 10% involume compared to SD Memory Card and about30% compared to miniSD 15. SMART MEDIA (SM) is a flash memory card standard owned by Toshiba, with capacities ranging from 2 MB to 128 MB.SmartMedia memory cards are no longermanufactured. 16. MULTIMEDIA CARD (MMC) is a flash memory memory card standard. Unveiledin 1997 by SanDisk and Siemens AG, it is based onToshibas NAND-based flash memory, and istherefore much smaller than earlier systems basedon Intel NOR-based memory such asCompactFlash. MMC is about the size of a postagestamp: 24 mm 32 mm 1.4 mm. MMC originallyused a 1-bit serial interface, but newer versions ofthe specification allow transfers of 4 or 8 bits at atime 17. XDis a flash memory card format, used mainly in olderdigital cameras. xD stands for Extreme Digital. xD cards are available in capacities of 16 MiB up to2 GiB 18. MEMORY PEN (USB MASS STORAGE) is an industry standard developed in the mid-1990sthat defines the cables, connectors andcommunications protocols used in a bus forconnection, communication and power supplybetween computers and electronic devices
