Being prepared

• Knowing what to do before a earthquake is something most people should do. Even though if you don’t live in a area that gets a lot of earthquakes, its best to still know and be safe and be ready for something you would not be expecting to save a life.

Earthquake preparedness part 1

• Make sure all shelves are secured to the walls.

• Place heavy objects from higher shelves to lower ones so the chances of you getting hit by something heavy is decreased.

Earthquake preparedness part 2

• Make sure to keep as many breakable objects such as dishes, fine china in a place where it can be kept so it will not fall off and break and possibly hurt someone.

• Make sure your electrical wiring and gas connections or ok and if not, repair it. During an earthquake, these can become a fire hazard.

Safety indoors

• Drop to the ground and take cover under something that is sturdy. Make sure you hold on to it till the earthquake is done because what you are under could move away. You can also use a doorway as shelter.

Avoid elevators

• Be sure to keep cover till the earthquake has completely stopped.

Safety outdoors

• If you are outside, stay out there and move to a location that is outside that has nothing around. Meaning Buildings, streetlights, and wires.

• Being around buildings and trying to take cover outside is a horrible thing to do. Most damage will be caused on the outside. Meaning if anything falls on you, your most likely dead after that.

Safety kit

• A safety kit is something a person should have where they live just incase something were to happen and they were stuck in there home. Having one in a time of need would really help someone being trapped and cant escape for a while. For example having it while u are under a home that has collapsed above you to survive till someone found you.
