* (describe the project brief, the things that you have to do etc + how does it relate to the subject. Max 3 paragraph.. not more that 150 words.)

Based on this project, the things that I have to do is to propose a new layout of my

new city quickly. I also had to show the symbiotic relationship of the elements of the

natural and built environment. In addition, I should be able to describe the different

characteristic of the environment after completing this project.

Researches on past, present and future cities also need to be done to understand the

component and elements that a city needs. I also had to come up with a new future

city which is better than the present one. The city that I have to come up with must be

sustainable and livable for all my citizens.

Ancient Cities

(Describe and layout your findings and the conclusion 1-2 cities preferably almost similar to your selected future city )

3.1 When did it start? History and all3.2 What ancient city are you concentrating on?3.3 What makes is a significant city and what are the details?3.4 Conclusion about the cities3.5 What information or element that you can use to your new future city3.6 Etc

Part A (i)

3.1- It is founded in 1325 and became the capital of Mexico Empire. It is built on an

island, called Lake Texcoco,in the Valley of Mexico.

3.2- The city I'm concentrating on is Tenochtitlan, also known as Mexico now. I took

Tenochtitlan as an example of my ancient cities on floating cities.

3.3- Around 45% of the population uses the public transit. The city plan is laid out on a

grid plan. The city was divided into four zones or campan, each campan is divided to 20

districts and each calpulli is crossed by streets or tlaxilcalli. There are three main streets

that crossed the city, each leading to one of the three causeways to the mainland, Each

districts is separated into – marketplace, public buildings and palaces of Montezuma.

The population of the city is about 200,000 people.

3.4- In 1521, the city was destroyed. The rest of the city was either destroyed,

dismantled or buried as Mexico City was built on top of it.

3.5- There were canals along the city and it reached to all parts of the city. I took the

canal as an example to put it in my future city.

Part A(i)

4.1- Venice was founded in 421 AD on April 25th. It is located in northeastern Italy sited

on a group of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges.

4.2- I took Venice, Italy as an example for my present floating city.

4.3- The city is divided into six areas. These districts consist of parishes. The

transportation used are cars, boats, walking, waterbuses, water taxis, train and gondola.

Venice is built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by 177 canals in a shallow

lagoon, connected by 409 bridges. What makes it a significant city is that it is one of the

most important tourist destinations in the world for its celebrated art and architecture.

Tourist are attracted to visit this country is because of its culture which is performing arts

and music, its grandeur architecture, interior design, cuisine, literature, art and festivals.

4.4- It is a great tourist attraction which I can take an example for my future city

4.5- To have lots of culture places so that it will attract tourists to come to my city.

5.1- The model is designed by Vincent Callebaut, a Belgian architect in March 2008 for

future climatic refugees. He proposed this model as a long term solution to rising water

level.

5.2- The Floating ecopolis, otherwise known as the Lilypad.

5.3- It is a prototype for a self-sufficient amphibious city. It designed to hold

approximately around 50,000 people. A mixed terrain man-made landscape, provided by

an artificial lagoon and three ridges, create a diverse environment for the inhabitants.

Each Lilypad is intended to be either near a coast, or floating around in the ocean.

5.4- The goal for this design is to create a harmonious coexistence of human and nature.

5.5- To make a greener future city based on Lilypad

6. The “X” City

(describe and explain what happen to the “X” City and what are the things that is required in the new future city)

6.1 When did it start? History and all6.2 Who are the people, population religion etc6.3 What are their cultural, needs, type of jobs6.4 What would be a good future city for them?6.5 Conclusion about the X city6.6 Etc

Part A(i)

Name of my future city - Sea scrapper

6.1- What happened to my city- In the year 2033, the world population has increased a lot

and land cannot withstand the weight of it. Some more global warming has become serious

where all the ice has melted which increases the water level of planet Earth. Therefore, I

decided to build a city floating on water.

6.2- Malaysians are living on my floating city. The populations in my city are around 300,000

people. In my city, there will be Malays, Chinese, Indians, and Bumiputras. The main spoken

language will be English in my city.

6.3- The type of job that my citizens will mostly consider is port policemen to guard around

the border so that no pirates will come. Besides that, there will be fishermen too to provide

food supply for my city. There will be various types of jobs for my citizens.

6.4- What would be a good future city for them is that it is modern, clean, suitable

temperature, green environmental, good transportation, safe neighborhoods and more.

7. The New “X” City / The New NAME?

(Describe the new facilities, characters, etc of the new city…. Insert information related to the brief “Part A iii C”)

7.1 How did you came up with the solution to create this new city7.2 Why is it floating on water etc7.3 What is the important characteristic and elements7.4 Etc… “Part A iii C”7.5 Conclusion about the new X city7.6 Etc

Part A(iii)

-SEA SCRAPPER

7.1- By doing lots of research on floating buildings or houses, I came up with this idea of

creating this floating city. I also watched a few movies to get my ideas to come up with this

city.

7.4- Part A(iii) A- Geometric shape, form, pattern and structure of the city.

- The geometric shape of my city will be in a honeycomb structure. There will be lots

of hexagon combined together to form a big honeycomb or hexagon like pattern. The

reason I chose this pattern is because of its hexagonal cells. It is also widely used in

construction. It is strong and also lightweight. All the hexagonal cells will be linked

together. One of cell will be approximately 20m wide and 50m tall

Page 15: Enbe final proj

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation

Part A(iii) B- Main focus of the city

- The main focus of the city will be in the center where commercial buildings and city

will be there. Besides that, the other main focus of the city will be the canal from one

end of the recreational park to the opposite end of the recreational park.

Part A(iii) C- The zoning of the city. In my city, there are

Religious buildings Recreational parks City area Housing area(condo, houses, apartments) Government building Commercial buildings Port Industrial Hospitals Sanitary Water distribution Agriculture Sewage

Part A(iii) D- People and their activities

- People will just be doing what people normally do, going to the mall, working in the

office, schooling, jogging in the park, resting at home, etc. There will also be an

observatory bridge around the park for people to see the view of the city.

Part A (iii) E- Transportation and Infrastructure

- Using public transports or cars can cause pollutions in my city and I don’t want that

to happen. So, in my future city, hybrid cars that do not release carbon monoxide will

Cassandra Wong | 0313365 | Group N| FNBE April 2013 | Taylor’s University17

Observatory bridge

One part of my recreational area

Page 18: Enbe final proj

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Future City Representation

be used, same goes to the public transport. All cars and public transport will be

electrical charged or using the sunlight as an energy source.

-Electric will be obtained from hydroelectric near the end of the city.. It will save cost

as it is only using the energy from water..

-Cars will not be use is large group because it may cause traffic jams. Instead,

straddling buses will be used in my city. All my citizens will practice using the future

transportation, straddling. Gondola will be used too to bring tourist around the

recreational part of my city.

-I want the road in my city to be solar panelize. That means it will be using solar

panels to receive and collect energy from the sun. It will be lighted up at night so that

7drivers can drive safely. Streets lights will also be installed using solar panel to

receive energy and to light up when it starts to be dark at night. The road will also

have LED installed in them so it will light up. The top part of my road will be

transparent-like so that energy from the sun will be collected.

9. Conclusion(describe what was important and others should follow or perhaps should know and what did you learned)

Max 3 paragraph.. not more that 150 words

During the process of collecting data for my city, what was important was to know whether

if it is sustainable or livable for my citizens. There were a lot to be concern about, from

‘What if it sinks one day?’ What if no one wants to live in my city and it becomes deserted?.

Going through lots of process during the planning of my city is also important to make

sure that everything is perfect. What I’ve learned throughout this project is that coming up

with a new city is not easy even though it sounds easy. There are a lot to think about, from

the zoning to how they sustain their energy. Besides that, going through trial and error in the

process also makes me someone who doesn’t give up continuing sketching.
