• Rationale for using Windows Movie Maker:• It is a FREE, relatively easy to use• Download Windows Movie Maker 2.6 Free• It provides a variety of features (titles/ credits,

transitions, effects) to create a simple movie• iMovie tutorials and manuals are available on

W200 week 4 website• Where to checkout equipment online: Click on this link

• Release form from Guardians/Parents for participants under 18 and any other participants in your digital story.

Part 1. Importing your pictures to your project

1. Go to Movie Tasks on the left2. Choose Import Pictures3. Browse and choose the pictures from your

computer (You should have at least 5 images ready for practice)

4. In Storyboard view, drag your pictures in order to begin making your movie.

Part 2. Add narration to your movie•Storyboard view versus Timeline view

1.Import audio or music into Movie Maker.2.Browse and add your narration (.mp3) to your

project.3.In Timeline View, add your narration.4.Use the “Drag” function in Timeline view to adjust

the length of your images according to your narration.

You might need to use the split function to cut your narration.

Part 3. Adding Effects and Transitions• When and why should you use these?

1. Edit Movie >> View video effects from the left side

2. Drag the video effects to your picture3. Drag transitions in-between the

images in the storyboard view4. Play your movie to preview (before

saving!)

Part 4. Publish your Movie without music• Make sure all your files are in the right place• Play and listen to it and view it before

publishing

Part4 (Cont.). How to Publish your movieo Go to File >> Publish Movie/Save movie file

(depends on the version of your movie maker)o Make sure you save it to the desktop, and then

after you have published it, drag it to your flash/USB drive

o Name it this way: DigitalStory_yourname_NoMusico Your finished file will be a WMV file, NOT a

MSWMM fileo Let’s try it together…

Part 5. Add Music to your movie1. Create a new movie project2. Import your published movie file (with

narration) into the timeline3. Add music to the audio/music track4. Adjust the volume of your music to make

sure it is not too loud.

Part 6: Inserting the“Title” and “Credits” pageso In Storyboard viewo “Edit” --> “Titles and Credits”o Make sure to have (1) title and (2) your name

on your title page

o Make sure to include credits for pictures, music, sounds, etc. THIS is where you will cite your sources. (For the credit slide, use the PPT template and save it as a jpeg file)

• Part 7. Publish your Movie with musicMake sure you playback to preview your movie before you publish the final version.1. Go to File >> Publish Movie/Save movie file (depends on the version of your movie maker).2. Make sure you save it to the desktop, and then after you have published it, drag it to your flash/USB drive.3. Name it this way: DigitalStory_yourname

• Now you are ready to upload your movie to YouTube.
