Port Forwarding Technique

Port forwarding or port mapping is the forwarding of a TCP/IP packet in a network address translator gateway to a predetermined network port on a host within a masqueraded, typically private network, based on the port number on which it was received from the originating host. The technique is used to permit communications by external hosts with services provided within a private local area network (LAN).This technique makes as if you are sharing files on LAN and increases download speeds.

Now let us see how to forward a port, using BSNL UT300R2U ADSL2+ Modem and Router.

Configuring your modem

• Open your browser.• Enter address http://192.168.1.1• You will be prompted for username and

password.• Enter username as ‘admin’ and password as

‘admin’.• After this your screen should appear as shown

in next slide.

Modem Configuration Page

Now Click, Advanced Setup NAT DMZ Host .In the space given for DMZ Host IP Address. Enter 192.168.1.2, Click Save/Apply.

Configuring PC• Go to Control Panel Network and Internet Connections

Network Connections.• Right click on Local Area Connection Properties.

Select Internet Protocol Click Properties.

Entering IP addresses

• Select radio button Use following IP Address.Enter these address.IP Address : 192.168.1.2Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0Default Gateway :192.168.1.1Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4 Google DNS.

You will surely notice speed increase after making these settings.

Use utorrent as your BitTorrent Client, it’s the fastest client, download speeds are faster compared to other clients.
