This Inlines command allows you to see which mainframe serial number is attached to each director port. This command will only show the mainframe paths that have been logically varied online by thecustomer.

The GIDN (Group ID number) is a unique number that Symmetrix assigns to a mainframe (or LPAR),when it brings its first path online to Symmetrix. This two-byte number is easier for Symmetrixmicrocode to use than the 11-byte Group ID, when implementing the Dynamic Path Reconnect (DPR)feature.

The Mainframe Hosts sends the Group ID to Symmetrix whenever it varies a path online to a device. This 11-byte number allows Symmetrix to distinguish a path that belongs to one hosts (or LPAR) from apath that belongs to another host (or LPAR). Symmetrix keeps a table that relates each GIDN with itscorresponding Group ID.

Shows device lock status. Also shows which other paths and EA’s that are waiting to lock the device.

This Inlines command shows some/all of the devices and paths that are currently in a LOCK,RECONNECT, RESERVATION, or BUSY state. We look for devices with stuck locks and reserves onthis screen.

Normally a device that appears on this screen will not be on the screen again the next time the commandis issued. If a customer calls and says his host crashed, and left some devices in a reserved state, youwould be able to verify that using this command. Follow the procedures outlined in Primus, if you think areserve or lock needs to be removed. This usually involves getting Tech Support involved in the call.

This command shows any path that has ever been brought online by a mainframe to each device inSymmetrix.

M = Multi-Path mode (DPR is enabled by the mainframe, and the path is logically online for the device. I/Ooperations started on one path may complete on another path within the group.)

S = Single-Path mode (DPR is disabled by the mainframe. Grouping exist only for device reservation, notreconnection)

D = Disbanded (The mainframe has disbanded a previously set path group for the device. Each path in theoriginal group for this device is placed in an ungrouped state.)

R = Resigned (The mainframe has logically varied the path offline for the device. The issuing channel isremoved from the channel path group for the device and becomes a stand-alone channel.)

U = Suspended (The path has been suspended for the device)

G = Group (A valid path group ID exist for this device on this channel, and the device is shared by a group)

- = Reset (No set Path Group ID command has been accepted on this channel since the last system reset orsubsystem power-on reset.

RAID 0 Data is striped across multiple devices. Provides lowest security but goodperformance

RAID 1 Provides a mirror image on another physical device and provides the bestdata security but cost is doubled

In Symmetrix this also provides an increase in performance because readsare split between the mirrors

RAID 2 Data is striped across multiple devices and protected by Hamming codes, requires additional dedicated devices to store the Hamming codes.

RAID 3 Data is striped across multiple devices and is protected by a dedicated paritydevice, parity is software generated

RAID 4 Data is striped by block across multiple devices and is protected by adedicated parity device, parity is hardware generated.

RAID 5 Data is striped across multiple devices, parity is generated and storedinterleaved with data on the data devices, parity is generated at the controllerlevel and there is an impact on performance

RAID S EMC propietary, this is similar to RAID 5 but parity generation and checking

When a device in the raid groupgoes not ready, you will see invalidtracks that are owed to that devicehere.

All logicals in the group aredisplayed here and show the totaltrack counts.

When a data drive goes not ready, the parity device will assume thatdata device position. All new andupdated tracks are shown here asvalid parity tracks.

Tracks that are unable to be rebuiltare shown here.

is performed by hardware at the device level rather than at the controllerlevel, this requires special XOR capable SCSI devices. Although there is aperformance impact this relieves the controller (DA) of the paritygeneration/checking.

2 control units

In 5x64 this is reversed. It’s shown LP/PORT in this family.

The break down of the GIDN is different in symm3 and symm4 and symm4 with 5265. In 5265code, its done in this manor:The first nibble is bit weighted. So :

8 4 2 1 0 0 1 0

The first 2 are default 0. The next or (2) is telling whether the path is grouped or not. 1 is and 0 is not.The last is telling if it’s the B port or not. 0 is not and 1 is. In the above example its telling us its groupedand the A port.

The second nibble is the dir –1. So dir 1 established the path.

The second byte, is the logical path. Keep in mind there is 2 Control units so they will not match the LPfrom the second column.

The state and time stamp of the last physicallink established with the port. The state can beValid or Suspended. When it is suspended, there is no light detected at the rear adaptor.Possibly, it is hung or the port at the IBMdirector is blocked.

The first byte is the LPAR image. The secondbyte is the descriptor of whether its directconnect and if it goes thru a switch. If the lastnibble is 01, its direct connect. All else is a switch.

You can see EMIF since the paths have thesame inbound ports with different LPAR’s.

RDF SYSTEM- Shows this if this is an RDF environmentRDF T3 – IF yes then the data is transferred over T3 lines , if NO then its local RDF (campus)

MPLF and ELLF- If yes then this is a TPF environment. Only passive commands allowed!!

EXTENDED LIMITED LOCK FACILITY (ELLF) Symmetrix supports IBM's Extended LimitedLock Facility for use in the ACP and TPF operating system environments. The ELLF featurecontrols access by multiple hosts to a shared resource (volume, file or record) via a logical lock. These logical locks limit access to a shared resource to one user at a time. Host systems controlthe locks using a special lock facility channel commands. Symmetrix maintains the names andstatus of logical locks currently in use, and responds to requests to obtain or release a lock.

MULTI-PATH LOCK FACIILITY (MPLF) Symmetrix also supports IBM's Multi-Path Lock Facility for use in theTPF operating system environment with the Concurrency filter lock facility installed. Like ELLF, the MPLFfeature controls access by multiple hosts to a shared resource (volume, file or record) via a logical lock. Theselogical locks limit access of a shared resource to one user at a time

MAII Director- Shows the default or local director that is know in global memory. See primus solution on how to changethis.

Link Domino- If yes then the customer has this set so when 1 device goes not ready all devices and links go not ready toboth hosts.

Fatal Error Flags- This flag prevents directors from going into IMPL monitor mode for non-severe errors. See TIM # 89for

proper settings and how to change.

This line shows how the symm is negotiating with the host. This is always hostdependant and the host will decide how it negotiates with the symm.
