About the Project “Fostering productive innovation”

This Project is implemented by the Ministry of Educationand Science of Republic of Kazakhstan and the WorldBank.

Purpose of the Project – Foster the high-quality andactual research and development in Kazakhstan, aswell as measures for the development of humancapital.

Component 2 – Innovation Consortia

Sub-ComponentProductive Sector Consortia(24,7 mln. US dollars)

Objective: Promoting collaboration among existing scientific research institutes and design bureaus and scientific and engineering profile laboratories in Kazakhstan (i) in respect of research and development activities for purposes of improving the productive sectors, and (ii) in respect of

improving the livelihood of the population

Component 2 – Productive Sector Consortia

Goal:• Involving the private sector and capital in

research and innovation;• Long-term and stable partnerships between

business and science;• Conduction of high-level industrial research;• Creation of a high-level R&D results;• Commercialization and implementation of the

R&D results;• Attraction of industrial and science global

leaders.

Priority areas:• Rational use of natural resources, water

resources, geology, processing, new materialsand technologies, safer products andconstructions;

• Power engineering, mechanical engineering;• Information, telecommunications and space

technology;• Life sciences and health.

Consortia needs to meet following conditions:• Project should be implemented on the territory of

Kazakhstan;• Participation of a representative of Kazakhstani

Industry;• Participation of representatives of the science of

Kazakhstan;• Co-financing by the participants;• Not allowed - projects related to production and / or

trade of tobacco, alcoholic beverages, weapons andammunition, gambling and dual-use goods

• Meet the environmental requirements of the WorldBank

Component 2 – Inclusive Innovation Consortia

Goal:• Implement innovations to address socially

important problems to improve the standard ofliving;

• Creating consortia of inclusive innovations with asustainable business model.


Priority areas*:• introduction of affordable and available energy-saving technologies for rural areas;• introduction of accessible and affordable technology to provide the rural population

with clean drinking water;• innovative methods of business processes to enable disabled individuals to live a

normal life;• introduction of innovative low-cost solutions in the field of telemedicine and remote

diagnosis for rural and urban populations;• innovative business processes to stimulate entrepreneurship in rural areas;• innovative solutions in the field of food, security and agriculture;• innovative solutions in the field of public safety and health;• innovative solutions in the field of education.
