Entry Activity

Rearrange the following equations to put them in the form y = mx + c

a) 2x + y = 5

b) 3 = 7x – y

c) 15 – y = 3x

d) 2y = 4x – 6

e) 9x – 3y = 12

f) 2(x – y) = 4

g) 3(y- x) = 0

Entry Activity

Rearrange the following equations to put them in the form y = mx + c

a) 2x + y = 5 y = 2x + 5

b) 3 = 7x – y y = 7x - 3

c) 15 – y = 3x -y = 3x – 15 which is y = -3x + 15

d) 2y = 4x – 6 y = 2x - 3

e) 9x – 3y = 12 y = 3x - 4

f) 2(x – y) = 4 2x – 2y = 4 which is y = x - 4

g) 3(y- x) = 0 3y – 3x = 0 which is y = x

y = mx + cSuccess Criteria – graphs of linear equations

1) Calculate the gradient using the following formulachange in y (the gradient is the mchange in x in the equation above).

2) Look at the y-intercept this shows you the constant term (c in the above equation).

3) Put the equation together in the form y = mx + c.

To identify lines of linear equations Grade C

Using the success criteria from last lesson, in pairs match the equations

to the graphs.

You may need to rearrange the formulas into the form y=mx+c

Write down the strategies you have used to match them and any clues!
