• In the drawing to the left, text is being used to label the components that will represent the instruction, along with the graphic. In this particular case, Voltage is represented by the Battery with the colors orange arrow and Pusher, the Current is represented by the wire with colors ofblue water.

Instruction: the colors are used to correspond to the compared values. An orange arrow and push to the Battery and the blue water to the wire flow in the battery.

• • When the intent is to teach a Science Concept such as

Voltage and Electrical Current, a drawing would be appropriate to help the student visualize the theory.

• In order to help the cognitive process of understanding, the use of “annotated frames” and “dialog boxes” are used to mentally integrate the material with existing knowledge.

II. Multimedia example :

Take a look at the diagram:Voltage would be the Force Pushing the Water inside the pipe.

Current would be the water flowRepresenting the wire in the Battery.

VOLTAGE VS. CURRENT Voltage is the Force that Causes Current to flow in a Battery, and It is measured in Volts. Current is the flow of electricity and its measured in Amperes.

• For this particular graphic, the components have been identify individually, and the functionality for each component is described next to the graphic as closed as possible so the learner can look at the graphic and learn its functionality at the same time.

Functional Test

The computer controls all operations for the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The power supply provides the power for the Printed Circuit Board. The Counter keep track of the oscillating frequency for the PCB. The Main Ethernet Switch either connects or disconnects the computer to the PCB. The HUB help data communication transfer between the Computer , the system analysis, and the PCB. The dash lines represent an optional connection between the PCB and the computer . Tests in this section are performed on an Test System Station.

• The graph is showing in this picture but, most of the text explaining the content functions

is missing.

• A poorly design webpage screen will have the visual illustration showing first , then the text appears further down the screen. Therefore loosing cohesiveness between the two.

II. Better design - Contiguity Example : Integrating text and visuals on the same scrolling screen, will help

the learner during the cognitive process of acquiring knowledge and organization of the material. Avoiding scrolling back and forth to look for information and helping maintain cohesiveness of the material being presented.

When the following dialog boxes pop-up, Enter the data accordingly. First enter your initials and ID number. Then answer “yes” to setup the OmniBER. Then enter the XC1 serial Number. accordingly.

• When the instructions, on what to do with this pop-up windows, are presented at the bottom of the page as shown, the learner will have to scan top to bottom to follow the directions.

• A better alternative is to use a legend to indicate the instructions of each separate graphic.• Displaying captions close to the graphic and inserting lines to connect text and visual, will help the learner follow directions as he or she continues browsing and reading the material.
