Analysing and research• I will look at certain music magazines front cover and contents pages such as NME

and kerrang as they are the type of genre/style of magazine I aim mine to be like. I will analyse both front covers and content pages and see which connotations commonly are used along with colour schemes and fonts and styles of writing to help me with my own magazine.

Front cover summaryBoth Kerrang and NME have similar features they follow when it comes to their front covers. I

will use the features they most commonly use in both NME and Kerrang when composing my front cover, such as.

• Large bold Masthead.• Medium close up shot of my chosen artist.• 3-4 colour range scheme.• 3-4 Font styles.• Small barcode in corner of front cover• Ensure the artist in my image has eye contact with the reader• To make sure that the artists face/head is not covered by any other coverlines or images.

NME Contents page

COLOUR SCHEMEConsistent colour scheme Red,white and black. The White a ndblack colours give a newspaper style, and the writing in red stands out. The use of three colours makes the magazine more professional and less tacky as all three colours are well suited and evenly used.

LAYOUTUses a simple structured approach of a contents page. Everything is very organised and set out.The NME’s style of contents and layout is similar to a newspapers.

MASTHEADLarge Masthead at the top indicating it is the contents “NME THIS WEEK”.NME’s logo is on the contents page which works as the title/masthead and also increases its own recognisability.

FONTS2-3 different font styles, again consistent from the front cover. This keeps the magazine professional and consistent. The use of larger fonts help certain features stand out. “Everyone got on board africa exprez” is in a newspaper fashion style as this is how common newspaper articles are started.

FEATURE OF CONTENTSHas a band index on the left to let readers look down and see if the recognise any bands which are featured with in this issue, so they can go straight to it.

COVERLINELarge subscribe advertisement at the bottom attracting the readers to purchase more magazines.

IMAGEShows a picture of different artist in action. This is a long shot, which enables the reader to see the hole of the artist and what instrument he is playing.

IMAGESThe use of images in kerrangs contents page show what is going to be inside the magazine. These are followed by small captions or descriptions describing who/what it is about.

IMAGESA larger image is used, this could be to show that this is a key feature with in the magazine. Having it larger makes it stand out and grab the readers attention.

LAYOUTIs very structured as it is set out in columns with both images and writing in staright lines. The contents is called “this week” and is listed straight down followed by page numbers. Making it easy for the reader to follow .

FONTSFont sizes on this content page are very consistent as they do not vary in style, size or colour.

COLOUR SCHEMEThe colour scheme used is black white and yellow. The yellow is used less as it is a bold colour and is only used on Titles and page numbers.
