My Project

Global Village

• When I think of computers and communities, I think about Marshall McLuhan

• “In a tribal all-at-once culture, the idea of the public”...individuals, all dissimilar but all capable of acting in basically the same way”

• “...an integral collective awareness that transcends conventional boundaries of time and space”

• I want to do something that shows how the computer can transcend borders (physical borders as well as time)

My Interests• culture

• languages

• traveling

• photography

• exploring the city

Concept• To create a sort of

‘global village’ (or at least my interpretation)

• I will find as many photos as I can of people posing in front of a famous landmark

• I’m hoping to collect photos of people of various ethnicities, ages and also from different times

• I’ll paste these pictures together to create either a cohesive image or a moving image where people are constantly popping in and out and over lapping with each other

Technology• Flicker and other

photo sharing sites

• iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop

• KeyNote/Qucktime

• I’ve chosen these technologies mainly because I know how to use them! But also because information is easily transferred between all of the mediums

Audience

• Anyone interested in the idea of a global community

• People interested in travel and the ‘touristic history’ of a landmark (tourists as seen from landmark’s point of view)
