Question 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?By Josh Potterton-Orton

Technology used for researchI used tow different types of computers with two different types of software on them. The first hardware I used was the schools Toshiba laptops. These had the software Microsoft Windows on and therefore the web browser was Internet Explorer.

The second bit of hardware I used was the Apple MacBook. The MacBook comes with the operating software Lion which is made by Apple, so therefore the default internet web browser is the Safari application.

Research Software usedI used the web browsers, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and the search engine Google when searching for websites and examples. The main websites I used to find examples of other openings and to find videos to analyse was YouTube (www.youtube.com). YouTube is a free website where people are upload videos for other people to see. In addition, I used the IMBD website (www.imdb.com) so I could find out facts and figures about films, and which are the most popular. Similarly, I also used statistics and data from the British Film Institution website (www.bfi.org.uk) to help me. I have learnt what websites are the most useful for different things I may need them for, such as YouTube is probably the most useful websites to use to find videos.

Equipment- Camera & Tripod

We used two different camera’s with one of better

quality than the other.

The tripod was only used some of the

time when film the opening

By using the school camera quite frequently

I learnt how to use it and what shots looked

better than other for our film.

When we did use the tripod I

obviously learnt how to use it from

unfolding it, to adjusting the height

and angle of the camera pod at the

top of it.

Editing hardware usedThe main Hardware we used for the film opening was the Apple Mac Mini computer with a different companies monitor to display it on. This is mainly because this had the best editing software that was available to us at school and was recommended by the teachers. There was also plenty of Mac computers for all the groups in the class to use.

Editing Software usedThe main software me and my group used to edit our film opening was iMovie which was the default editing software on the Mac Mini. I was quick to learn how to trim video clips and insert parts that we wanted in our film opening and to add the background music of the horror ambiance in the background which we got off the website, Freesound (www.freesound.org). Although, to edit the and trim the horror sound that we used, I used the software GarageBand. GarageBand was more difficult for me to use because the buttons weren’t really clear on how to use it. After we finished editing our opening we had to upload it to Blogger (www.blogger.com) which was actually surprisingly easy and straight forward to use.
