What is a reconnaissance?

The reconnaissance is a preproduction overview at the location, props and key elements to what I shall be filming.

To complete my reconnaissance I went to the location that I will be filming at and took photos so that I know how I shall be setting up my equipment and how my actors will react to the environment.

I also took pictures of key items which have connotations that are influential to the music video.

Page 3: Reconnaissance pp

Bedroom Set:The bedroom set is the opening location as well as the closing location therefore the first and last scene this is symbolic of the main characters life. The set has typical props of a bedroom for example bedside cabinet, bed, lamp, window etc……

First and last scene set.

Typical bedroom props that represent a bedroom.Lamp.Bed.Window.

Bathroom Set:This is the second scene in the music video where the main character walks into the bathroom and carries out his daily routine to show his mundane life and how he just follows the same patterns and waits for change in his life rather than going out and change it him self.

Bathroom second scene.

Props that are associated with a bathroom (toothbrush, bath, sink, toilet, etc…)

Mirror to create the mirror shot to show different parts of the characters routine.

Living room set: This is the third scene in the music video. This scene is important to show the loneliness of the main character, this can be show my the main character drinking alcohol alone and watching old television shows.

Television – part of the literal analysis of the lyrics

Bottle of alcohol – connotations of loneliness and self pity.

Page 6: Reconnaissance pp

Outside the house set: This is the set that shall be used to show the main character leaving the house to go to a bar as well as returning to the house in a drunken state. This scene is used to represent the main characters lonely and depressive existence.

Outside the house.

This shows the main character leaving the house alone and returning alone.

Bar set: The bar scene is one of the last scene that show the main character in a public place but with no-one accompanying him this reflects his sadness.

Bar props – tables, chairs, gambling machine and bar

Shot glass – again showing the main character as an alcoholic.

Page 8: Reconnaissance pp

Hallway set: The hallway is long and lonely much like the cliché of the lonely man walking down a long road, therefore I have tweaked the cliché to keep the connotation but change the boring standard road. Using this connotation it builds on the fact the main character is lonely and depressive.

Hallway set.

The long lonely road cliché.

Key Prop

Revolver:Key prop. The revolver is a key part of the song as it is heavily referred to as the main characters ticket out of life. Therefore I shall be using multiple connotations and denotations of this prop to build the effect of the story.
