DESCRIPTION

This second Webinar in our four-part Healthcare Knowledge Set series will highlight the benefits of managing translation with translation memory. Re-translating the same text is both costly and inefficient. “Save Time and Money with Translation Memory” will help you streamline your translation/localization process to ensure that you are not reinventing the wheel each time. As budgets shrink and the need for translation grows, leveraging previous translations can be a powerful tool for saving you valuable time and energy — and up to 25 percent on cost.

1. The program breaks new source text into segments

2. Each new source segment is checked against the TM

3. If it is an exact match, the program will offer the translator the matching translation from the TM

4. The translator can accept it as-is, or make any edits

5. All the translator’s work can then be added to the TM

When TM Doesn't Work Well and Why

•Not all file types work well

•Small seemingly insignificant changes prevent match

•Document designer inserts a line break mid-sentence

•Should translate message of the text, not always

sentence-by-sentence

•Marketing text

•One-time or poor-quality source text

•Workflow that doesn’t support TM (e.g. CMS)

Ownership of Your Translation Memory

• You should make sure you have either specific language to this or a standard “ownership of work” term in your contract.

• Translation Memory, in almost all cases, can be exported to a standard format that any vendor can use.

• Ask for a copy of it quarterly and maintain updates.
