Ubiquitous computing names the third wave in computing,

just now beginning.

First were mainframes, each shared by lots of people.

Now we are in the personal computing era, person and machine staring uneasily at each other across the desktop.

Next comes ubiquitous computing, or the age of calm technology, when technology recedes into the background of our lives.

Alan Kay of Apple calls this "Third Paradigm" computing.

Ubiquitous Computing-computing from the environment

• NO DESKTOP !!!!!!

• NO LAPTOP !!!!!!

• Computers ,sensors ,cameras are hidden in the environment

• Computation is done with miniature computer,PDAs ,Palmtop ,wearable

computers,dynabook & sensors

Wearable Computers & Sensors

Steve Mann models a wearable from the early 1990s.

Steve's current wearable looks like an ordinary pair of bifocals.

Special sensors are used for various applications. The most important are the sensors for thermal imaging, creation of multi-spectral images, gamma cameras, sensor arrays for x-rays, and highly sensitive arrays for astronomy.

Functionality in Ubiquitous computing

• Vision of future environments

The enviroment tells what is traffic position to the nearby destination where the person is going

The system says about the weather of the place where is heading Getting the mood of boss before entering his chamber You are in meeting or party your information system is intelligent

enough to handle Recall or reminder to take medicine in time The dress you wearing and color of your choice is in database And so on …….

Issues in Ubiquitous Computing

• Datamanagement is issue in scenario

• Privacy and Security

• Network bandwidth and availability

• Trust and Hacking

Page 10: Ubiquitous Computing A Next Generation Perspective

Datamanagement is issue in scenario

• Huge data is involved so collection of information and its usage is issue to handle

• Using AI and softcomputing can be beneficial or not ?????

Page 11: Ubiquitous Computing A Next Generation Perspective

Privacy and Security

• As the informations about a person his personal life is in the environment therefore privacy and security is issue to handle

Page 12: Ubiquitous Computing A Next Generation Perspective

Network bandwidth and availability

• Availabilty of information is an issue as communication is done by Wi-Fi, RFIDS ,sensors and etc. The heavy data flow is involved and hence network bandwidth is issue of concern.

Trust and Hacking

• Trust we say who can harm you but wont harm

• And Hacking deliberately breaking law and intruding into your network

Both are issues in Ubiquitous Computing
