Tornadoes

• Tornadoes are produced by warm, rising air caused by winds in a thunderstorm. These winds begin to rotate and a narrow, spinning cloud may or may not touch the ground.

Hurricanes

• Hurricanes are produced by warm, moist air rising upward from near the surface. The whole system of clouds and wind spin and grows, fed by the ocean’s heat and water.

Mudslides

• Mudslides are produced by heavy rainfall causing mud on top of a hill to loosen up and eventually cause the mud to rush rapidly downhill.

Floods

• Floods are produced by heavy rainfall causing bodies of water to flow over and break the banks of the waterways causing the land around the bodies of water to be flooded.

Blizzards

• Blizzards are caused by strong winds that affect a snowstorm and make it more severe due to the violent wind strength.

Sandstorms

• Sandstorms are caused by strong winds that carry sand, dust, and many sediments through the air.

Wildfires

• Wildfires are produced by the combination of weather, wind, and dry underbrush. Wildfires need fuel, oxygen, and a heat source to thrive.

Black Ice

• Black Ice is caused by ice becoming a thin layer of virtually transparent coating covering roads allowing black asphalt roadways to be seen although the ice is there.

Lightning

• Lightning is generated in cumulonimbus clouds as a discharge of built up energy due to the separation of positive and negative charges inside of the thunderhead.

• Hailstorms are generated when clumps of ice are blown through freezing thunderclouds that have high altitudes and powerful updrafts.
