Intergenerational News Our “Grandfriends” continue to enrich our lives in many ways. Janet came into the Birds’ room this

last week and thoroughly enjoyed reading stories to our children. During our unit on Beach & Ocean, she

played with the children in the sensory table, digging for shells in the sand. She even had Savannah lining up

multiple shells on the table in different patterns and designs. She has asked if we can come back to visit her at

her apartment again, so hopefully that will be in our plans very soon.

Giraffe Whistles:

The Giraffes have had a wonderful time learning all about the ocean.

We did experiments to see how salt water affects how items float. We

studied the many creatures that live within the deep waters and made several

cute sea creature crafts. The children also enjoyed the two new play centers

we added to our room. The first one added was a representation of an ocean

with a net and a pool, and the second was a ship they created from a large

box. If you have not yet heard your child sing “The Silly Pirate Song” you

should ask them to do so. They loved it! Our trip to the Lake Erie Nature

and Science Center was a big hit as the children enjoyed all it had to offer.

They were able to observe many animals and fish, climb through a tree

trunk, and listen to the sound of the waves as they hit the shore.

It is hard to believe that school will be starting very soon, and I will be

saying goodbye to seven of our children as they go off to kindergarten.

Since we must say goodbye, we have chosen August 17th

as the date for

preschool graduation for those who will be going off to kindergarten this

fall. The children have already started practicing for their big day and are

looking forward to performing for their families. Stay cool and enjoy the

rest of your summer.

Karen and Julie

It is August, and hopefully it will be cooler than

July! We have a lot planned for August as we talk about the

Olympics. The children love trying to do Olympic sports.

We will also be talking about camping and the fair. We are

going to try to go to the fair this month to see all the

animals.

The children had a blast in July! By far the favorite

was Pirate and Mermaid Week! They loved making pirate

hats, playing with a pirate ship, and mermaids. Thanks to

all that donated boxes and paper towel rolls for our pirate

crafts! They also enjoyed our trip to the Lake Erie Science

Center and getting ice cream at Huntington Beach.

Hope everyone has a great month!
