SanurThe sleepy fishing village of Sanur was developed as Balis
first resort to accommodate the needs to international travelers.
But long before the arrival of tourists, this enchanting beach
front destination was home to renowned Belgian artist, Adrien Jean
Le Mayeur de Merpres.

Coming Around
Though the Indonesian Green Revolution ripped and tore the
complex fabric of Balis agricultural system, the island retained
enough cohesion and rhythm to survive the onslaught. For good
intentions, the Green Revolution was pushed throughout Indonesia to
feed its expanding, crowded population. The use of chemical inputs
was pushed on Bali as a patriotic duty, and farmers were advanced
inputs. As the farmers used the inputs, the land became dependent
on them, which in turn made them dependent on using the chemicals.
This caused great harm to the ecological balance throughout the
island, and offshore coral reefs were poisoned and suffocated. As
the agricultural planners observed the sophistication of the
ancient system and that fertility could be naturally maintained by
the geology of the island, they withdrew aggressive promotion, and
many now hold the traditional system in high esteem. While some
farmers continue to be dependent on expensive inputs, the use seems
to be gradually reducing.3

The Diamond Bali is 15 meter tall of blue glass diamond shaped
in a beautiful garden and surrounded by flowing water, the clear
ocean view and white sandy beach panorama could be seen through the
diamond glass.

Bali Beach Hotel, 1966Initiated by Sukarno, the first hotel of
international quality was opened in Sanur, financed with the help
of Japanese war reparations. In a strange coincidence the old Bali
Hotel in Denpasar had been built on the site of the Dutch puputan
in 1906 and the Bali Beach Hotel was built precisely on the spot
where the Dutch landed prior to that puputan.It turned out that
most tourists found it too international and preferred to spend
their time in more local style, that is to say, in thatched
cottages. Many hotels now build thatched villas. It was also too
tall and a law was passed that future buildings should not exceed
the height of a coconut tree. That law is no longer followed.
Bamboo
Egg art from Bali is an old tradition on the island.So those
eggs are the shells from either duck, goose, ostrich (kasuari) and
even crocodile eggs. Some are selected for perfect round shaped,
unbroken ones. Very interesting how the Balinese art-painters
create their subjects and produce a very artful, artistic
product.
