Freshmen writing students will use information about the Holocaust to craft arguments in response to the following essential questions: How and why do genocides start? How do governments hide genocide? Is complicity during crime a crime itself? How do countries and ethnic groups recover after

genocide or civil war and regain cultural identity? Does war generate anything that is culturally

valuable? How is the war/conflict/genocide in X country

similar or different to World War II and the Holocaust?
