The American Museum of Natural History is located on the Upper West Side, just across the street from Central Park. It is one of the biggest museums in the world. It consists of twenty-eight interconnected buildings that have forty-five permanent exhibitions in them. The museum also has a planetarium and a library. The entire collection of the museum consists of more than thirty-three million items, including specimens of plants, rocks, human remains, and more. Because the collection is so large, the museum only displays a small part of it at any given time. The museum employs 225 full-time scientists and even has its own Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) program in Comparative Biology, which is the first Ph. D. program for any museum in North America.

The Bronx Zoo, as its name suggests, is located in the Bronx. It opened in 1899. It consists of 265 acres of parkland and is one of the largest zoos in the world. It is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States.

If you are staying in Manhattan or Brooklyn, getting to the zoo will take you at least one hour one-way. Because of this reason, you should allocate at least a day just for the zoo. People that think they will be able to see one of the largest zoos in the world in a few hours usually leave disappointed and say that they really regret not planning their itinerary differently, which is why Jonathan Sdao suggests that you plan your trip very carefully.
