Portugal is a member of the European Union since 1986.

Our region Lousã is a small town, in the center of

Portugal, district of Coimbra.Our school is in center of Lousã.

Our school is situated in a semi-urban area, in a beautiful

mountainous region with around 19 293 inhabitants.

Lousã is 28 Km from Coimbra.The region of Lousã occupies an area of 139, 16 km2 (of which one third is occupied by Lousã mountain).

There are several monuments in Lousã.The Medieval Castle is Lousã’s “ex-libris”. A group of small chapels called “Nossa Senhora da Piedade” Hermitage and a natural swimming pool are also interesting spots.

In our small town you can visit the museums and you can also find some manor houses; one of them is now a hotel. The Town Hall (on the right) is also a beautiful

monument.

There are some rustic schist villages spread along Lousã Mountain, between the heights of 500m and 820m. Trevim

is the highest point (around 1200m high).

Lousã and its mountains are perfect for sport activities, such as Mountain Biking and other extreme sports. Rugby, Volleyball, Judo, basketball and

soccer are also important in our region.Several cultural events and fairs are held throughout the year: the

Education and Book Fair; S. João Fair (24th June – municipal holiday); Teenagers’ Art Exhibitions, Handicraft and Gastronomy Festival

(September), “Chestnut and Honey Fair” (November) and a Christmas Fairin a schist village ( December ).
