Tabriz is the capital of one of the most famous provinces of Iran, the Azarbaijan or Aturpatgan. It is perhaps the birth place of Zaratushtra. The city has a long and turbulent history.

The masjid jami, (congregational mosque) is the centre of community worship and the site of Friday prayer services. Though the mosque - originally a sacred plot of ground - has been influenced by local architectural styles, the building has remained essentially an open space, usually roofed, with a minaret sometimes attached.

Moscheeile de Vineri sunt centre de cult ale comunităţilor şi locul unde au loc rugăciunile comune de vineri. Deşi moscheile - iniţial un teren sacru - au fost influenţate de stilul arhitecturii locale, ele rămân în esenţă un spaţiu deschis, de regulă acoperit şi uneori având alături un minaret.

Statues and pictures are not permitted as decoration. The mosque has traditionally been the centre of social, political, and educational life in Islamic societies.

Nu sunt permise statuile sau imaginile pentru decorarea moscheilor. Prin tradiţie moscheile au fost totdeauna centrul vieţii sociale, politice şi de instruire în societatea islamică.

Islamic law doesn't require men and women to be separated in the prayer hall; there is nothing written in the Qur'an about the issue of space in mosques and gender separation. However, traditional rules have segregated women and men. By traditional rules, women are most often told to occupy the rows behind the men.

Legea islamică nu cere ca femeile şi bărbaţii să fie separaţi în lăcaşurile de cult; nu este prevăzut nimic în Coran cu privire la împărţirea spaţiului de rugăciune pentru femei şi bărbaţi. Totuşi regulile tradiţionale îi separă. Conform cutumei femeile trebuie să ocupe locurile din spatele bărbaţilor.

Traditionalists try to argue that Muhammad preferred women to pray at home rather than at a mosque, and they cite a hadith in which Muhammad supposedly said: "The best mosques for women are the inner parts of their houses," although women were active participants in the mosque started by Muhammad. Muhammad told Muslims not to forbid women from entering mosques. They are allowed to go in.

Tradiţionaliştii încearcă să argumenteze că Mahomed ar fi preferat ca femeile să se roage acasă, citând un verset în care se presupune că el ar fi spus „cea mai bună moschee pentru femei este partea interioară a locuinţelor lor” deşi femeile au participat activ în moscheea începută de el. Mahomed le-a spus musulmanilor să nu interzică femeilor să intre în moschei. Lor le este permis să le frecventeze.
