Behind the doors of an old heritage house topped with decorated Wind Tower and

located in the heart of Al Fahidi historical district in Bur Dubai area, where the past

embraces the present and where the old buildings erected by the narrow alleys still bear

witness the era of the ancient history of Dubai, was established the Sheikh Mohammed

Centre for Culture Understanding as a non- profit organization in 1998 under the patronage

of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum UAE’s Vice President, Prime

Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

His Highness, may God protect him, with his keen vision and open-minded mentality

inherited from his predecessors, wanted to make of this Centre the monument for culture

understanding between the Islamic Arab Emirates culture and its counterparts of foreign

cultures which are represented by their foreign expatriate.

It is from this perspective that emerged the idea of “Open doors, Open minds”, which

aims to make known the local culture and traditions in the light of the Arab-Islamic reference

of the United Arab Emirates. The program, via its cultural understanding approach, aims to

facilitate the integration of tourists and residents with the UAE citizens by presenting various

programs accompanied with breakfast, lunch or dinner meals.
