Final Draft Editing Process

Why did I choose to edit?

• At first I had thought that the second draft would be my final draft of the magazine, however despite the reaction of those I got to fill out the questionnaire I decided that I was not pleased with the final draft when comparing it to real world products. For this reason I decided to do some final edits.

The first stage for me was to change the position of the EX symbol. After looking at lots of magazines I realised that the positioning of it was certainly off. The Q magazine especially put it on the left side rather than the right and I decided to do the same with my music magazine. I felt this would give it a more professional sealing and also attract my audience better. This simply required selecting the layers which make up the masthead and moving them to the left.

Due to the new position of the masthead I had to move the position of this text to the right. At first this text contrasted heavily to the background of the chalkboard, in order to fix this I added a drop shadow to it using the effects tool.

Using the type tool I added a new article on the front cover “Youtube, The new hotspot for stars?”. This filled some empty space which looked bizarre on the front cover.

In order to break up the articles and make them more accessible to the reader I added a line break between each. Visually this subtly makes them more accessible as the reader can see a break between each.

I enlarged the size of the text for “Exclusive Magazine” Making it more obvious, I also enlarged the pricing.

The barcode was moved to the left and enlarged.

Using the type tool I wrote below the central image “Ed Sheeran and DIVIDE” in this way I hoped to pull a bigger audience than just those interested in the star BEX.

I adjusted the position of the “Free Posters” and corresponding imagery- these moved towards the right to make space for the text.
