A brief explanation of how this

design works

EGR Cooler Shields: How do they work?

Geometry, Material and Placement

Geometry

To be successful, a cooler shield must: • Be robust against differential thermal expansion• Allow hot areas to be attached to cooler areas without

high stress. Requires careful design optimization (floating portion)

• Allow gas to flow to tubes as usual while impeding direct flow to the critical cooler face metal.

• Be robust to pressure pulses• Be Lightweight• Be Easy to fit

Material

• We specify certain alloys to accommodate thermal cycling without excessive deformation

• Able to dissipate heat quickly• Maintain shape and durability against thermal

cycling, pressure cycling and vibration.

Placement

• Designed to be used where it is most effective without causing secondary concerns.

• Relatively easy assembly when EGR Valve is accessible

In Summary

• The geometry has been optimized• The material is well chosen• The placement in the engine is the most effective

for protecting the critical surfaces• The patent pending design is extremely cost

effective• The return on investment is very high, saving

many times more than the initial outlay including labor and downtime.

No Copies!

• Specially designed, calculated dimensions for thickness and width of the material. Optimized for the screen durability to exceed EGR Cooler durability.

• The provisional application for patent lists relevant aspects for the components and their subsequent assembly

Rig Tests and Analyses

• The tested screen assembly emerged undamaged although discolored from thermal cycling. The cooler had endured 50% more cycles!

Benefits

• Tests have been conducted on a special purpose test bench

• EGR Coolers were tested with and without the thermal shield

• The results demonstrate that a customer can expect a 50+% increase in thermal fatigue life for the cooler.

• This increase will save you money, keeping you on the road longer between visits to the dealer.

• For $195 in parts, you could extend the life of a new cooler or even a current cooler.
