All-new Ford Mustang Revealed

Ford has taken the wraps off the new Ford Mustang, which will go on sale in April 2014,exactly 50 years after the original. The new Mustang is part of Ford’s “One Ford” global model programme, which will see 25 new launches from the Blue Oval over the next five years.

Not so discreet "50 Years" plaque on the dashboard, just to reaffirm the pedigree.

Inside, Ford has stuck to the double wing dashboard design, but with a morecontemporary feel and finish. There’s a large 8-inch touchscreen right in themiddle of the dashboard, and the new Mustang also gets Ford’s SYNC voice-activated technology. The Mustang remains firmly a 2+2 seater, with the rear jumpseats.

US prices are expected to start around the USD 30,000 mark(approx. INR 18 lakh) for the new Mustang, when it goes on sale. Ford will alsomake a right-hand drive version for the US market, and it is possible that thisversion could be offered in other RHD markets as well, including Japan, Australia, Malaysia and India.

If Ford India decides to bring the Mustang into the country, it would make the perfect ‘halo’ car. Of course, Indian enthusiasts would all be drooling in anticipation, but there’s no word yet whether the Mustang will eventually make it to our shores. Even with import duties and taxes, the Mustang could still make a credible business case, albeit in small numbers. That doesn’t stop wealthy individuals from importing it though.
