Commercial success of the AW3000
The AW3000 wind turbine by ACCIONA Windpower has managed to make significant inroads in the wind farm market. In 2013 and the first six months of 2014, the company signed turbine supply contracts totaling 1,440 MW as well as several preliminary contracts it expects to formalize in the next few months.
The excellent response to this wind turbine reflects the outstanding features of this type of machine, its wide
range of options for different wind generation systems and its highly competitive position in the segment that is currently experiencing the highest demand: 3 MW wind turbines.
Around 87% of the power contracted in the last 18 months has been for projects for other companies in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Canada and Turkey, while the remaining 13% has been for ACCIONA’s own facilities in South Africa and Chile.
In 2013, ACCIONA Windpower set up a program to reduce the energy cost (COE) associated with each wind turbine, a concept which includes the cost of investment (purchase of components, manufacturing process, transportation, installation and start-up) as well as the operation and maintenance expenses during the machine’s useful life (on average, 25 years).

TECHNOLOGIES. SOLAR PHOTOvOLTAIC
Plants in South Africa, Australia and ChileACCIONA has extensiveexperience in the development, construction and operation of large photovoltaic plants.
The company has commissioned more than60 MWp in Spain, most ofwhich is in solar gardens,i.e. groups of individually-ownedfacilities serviced byACCIONA.
In 2008 the Amareleja photovoltaic plant was grid connected in Portugal, with 45.8 MWp, one of the largest
solar-tracking facilities in the world. Mitsubishi owns a 34% stake in the plant.
Based on this experience, the company has strengthened its activities in this technology in recent years.
In 2013, a consortium in which ACCIONA is the main shareholder won the tender to build and operate a photovoltaic plant of 94 MWp (74 nominal MW) – the Sishen plant in South Africa.
The installation, which also involved the South African
company Aveng, will be operational by the end of 2014.
This year ACCIONA will also complete the start-up of a 24 MWp plant in Australia (20 MW nominal power) through a turnkey contract for third parties.
It has also been awarded other EPC contracts for two photovoltaic plants in Chile, totaling up to 47 MW of power.
The company also has several initiatives under development in the above countries as well as in Brazil.

ACCIONA and the El Greco2014 Foundation have signed apartnership agreement makingthe company one of the officialsponsors of the events plannedto mark the 4th centenary of the death of El Greco.
ACCIONA will be lending its support to a cultural project being prepared by the Foundation for 2014, anambitious initiative that will beorganized in Toledo (Spain) withevents staged in other citiesin Spain and abroad. With thissponsorship, the Company joinsa cultural and social projectfor the future, and will be theofficial sponsor of the sculpturebeing prepared by CristinaIglesias in Toledo.
The commemoration of thedeath of El Greco has beenofficially declared an “event of
exceptional public interest”.The El Greco 2014 foundationwas created on 13 May 2010,and is chaired by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain.
DOMÉNICO THEOTOCÓPULI“EL GRECO”(Crete, 1541-Toledo, 1614) ElGreco, a painter who synthesized traditional Greek painting, the color of Venice and Roman design, had a picturesque, varied artisticcareer in Crete, Rome and Toledo, where he lived for half his life. In Spain, the Greek from Toledo became the most notorious artist during the time of Philip II and Philip III, astounding all with his complex compositions, his bright colors, his mastery of light, shadow, transparency and reflection, his talent for bringing fabric and cloudscapes to life, his
boundless imagination when painting supernatural scenes, and his ability to breath life intopictorial fiction. Spain had not seen anything like it before, and his complex, intellectual and captivating art astonished his public and inspired in some admiration and in others distaste and outright rejection, particularly because he flaunted certain conventions and in doing so showed both his courage and disregard for tradition. With his paintings, El Greco created a new world of religious imagery and a revolutionary way of depicting divine or earthly individuals. His style is so unique that today his work is easily recognizable as being by “the Greek from Toledo”.
