The Flexibility Aggregator: the example of the GreenLys Project
Guillaume Lehec
Demand Side Management is only one part of a full packaged Energy Efficiency Offering
Electricity supply costs can be reduced in several ways:
“Static” optimization: definitive distortion of the load curve shape by changing deeply the behavior of the customer
“Dynamic” optimization = load management: punctual load curve
distortion according to the economic conditions • Consumption distortion: anticipation and delay of consumption • Remote control distributed generation : CHP, Diesel engines
Load shedding Load shifting to low price hours
Load increase in low price hours
Reduce quarter hourly imbalances
Different kinds of Dynamic Optimization
Dispatching of decentralised assets

GreenLys: a field test designed to prepare offerings development.
GreenLys aims at designing the future local market design
• Developing 2 field test platforms on Grenoble and Lyon by 2016 : 1000 B2C customers and 40 B2B customers
• Testing the social acceptance and the offerings attractiveness • Testing in real conditions the relationships between distributed generation and
Demand Side Management and the value for the electric system • Proposing regulatory evolutions in order to let DSM create the maximum value
for the electric system

The package for the B2C customers
Through the solution the customer is no more passive !
Energy monitoring (web user experience) Energy management (scheduling and remote control) Load shifting (temporaly temperature reduction/increase)
Schneider Wiser Box
Already 300 B2C customers are contributing to the GreenLys Project in Lyon and Grenoble
GreenLys first results for Aggregators
Customers interest confirmed for packaged offerings especially with gamification and challenges within the users community
Consumption reduction to be assessed in the next month, Customers expectations regarding the aggregators offerings to be re-
assessed according to GreenLys users feedback
Load shifting has almost no impact on B2C customers comfort 3-5% curtailment cancelled by customers
The distributed portfolio is more than 90% available during winter
Customers cancelation, technical failure
GreenLys first results for Aggregators
The created value for the system will be assessed in the next month and so the Business Model of a B2C aggregator
The solution is technically scalable but
The offerings has to be test beyond the early adopters Installation and maintenance costs must be optimized smart meters on B2C customers are necessary (French regulation
constraint – deployment in progress) Distribution tariffs have to evolve in order to bring the right incitation to
the customers and the aggregators
