BRANDING YOURSELF & YOUR BUSINESS

What is branding?

• A brand is a "name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers”.

• Branding began as a way to tell one person's cattle from another by means of a hot iron stamp.

The objectives of a good brand:

• Delivers the message clearly• Confirms your credibility• Connects your target prospects emotionally• Motivates the buyer• Concretes User Loyalty

Determine your “why”.

First,

2. Set up your profiles• Reserve your name on each platform– www.namechk.com

• Reserve your domain name• Complete your profile 100%• Use a professional headshot or logo• Use industry keywords

3. Tag Line

• Create a tag line or use your business’ current one

• Want something that people will remember you by– “Just Do It”– “I’m Lovin’ It”– “Like a good neighbor…”

4. Have a consistent look• Logo• Email Signature• Business Cards• Social Media Platforms• Website• **You look is your brand ID**

5 C’s of a Tagline

1. Clear2. Concise3. Consistent4. Compelling5. Catchy

5. Be Visible

• You need to be seen and be out there– Blog– Daily posts on Facebook– Online video series– LinkedIn Groups– Tweet throughout the day

Those who insert themselves into as many channels as possible look set to capture the most value. They’ll

be the richest, the most successful, the most connected, capable and

influential among us. We’re all publishers now, and the more we

publish, the more valuable connections we’ll make.”

-Pete Cashmore, Founder of Mashable

Why do you want to brand yourself or your business?

• To stand out– “If you’re not standing out, you’re blending in.”

• To have a more professional presence• To distinguish yourself from your competitors• To give people something to recognize

“Ultimately, brands need to have a role in society. The best way to have a role in society is to

understand how people are talking about things in real time.” -Jean-Philippe Maheu, Chief Digital

Officer, Ogilvy

I’ve branded myself, now what?

• Be active• Connect• RESPOND• Have fun!

“Focus on how to be social, not on how to do social.” -Jay Baer
