Design for smart products. What is smart?
! Understand users & their state ! Understand the context ! Grow old gracefully ! Learn to forget ! Adapt

9 principles mundane computing (Tom Coates)
1. The appliance should not need to be connected to the network in order to function, the network is a progressive enhancement
2. It must be unbelievable simple to get the device onto the network in the first place. 3. You should use the network to amplify a tool's core purpose, not to be another web
browser or twitter client 4. The most important way to enhance an object is make it easier to control, or to understand
how it's working 5. The enhanced interface for a network enabled device should be wherever you needed to be. 6. You should be sensitive to the impact of the product's upgrade cycle. 7. The 'enhanced' intelligence of the device should be in the cloud, not on the device. 8. The object should communicate with its users in ways that feel appropriate, polite and
pertinent... 9. It should be possible for the enhanced object to respond to the actions of other objects and
other forms of online data.
